While the market watched the token, the company spent $4 billion assembling what it was never granted: custody, prime brokerage, corporate treasury, and payment rails, acquisition by acquisition. This is the audit of what the money bought, what it earns, and the uncomfortable question the empire answers about XRP.

The most consequential thing Ripple did in the last three years has almost nothing to do with the price chart its community refreshes, and it happened in six press releases most of that community skimmed.

In May 2023, with the SEC case still hanging over it, the company paid $250 million for Metaco, a Swiss custody-technology firm whose software safekeeps digital assets for global banks. Then, piece by piece: Standard Custody, for a New York trust charter. 

Hidden Road, for $1.25 billion, one of the fastest-growing non-bank prime brokers on earth. Rail, for stablecoin-powered payment plumbing. 

GTreasury, for roughly $1 billion, a forty-year-old treasury-management platform that moves $12.5 trillion a year for corporates like American Airlines and Volvo. Palisade, for XRP-native custody. 

Total: about $4 billion, the largest acquisition spree any crypto-native company has executed, and the pieces are not a conglomerate’s random shopping.

XRP Ledger adds $2.6B as RWA inflows rank second
The $XRP Ledger added about $2.6 billion in tokenized real-world asset value during the past six months, excluding stablecoins, according to data from RWA.xyz.

That placed XRPL second among tracked blockchain networks for net RWA inflows during the period. BNB Chain ranked first with about $3 billion, while Stellar followed XRPL with roughly $2.1 billion.

The increase lifted XRPL’s combined distributed and represented RWA value to about $4.38 billion on July 26. The RWA.xyz dashboard listed $323.21 million in distributed assets and $4.06 billion in represented assets. The network also held $995.12 million in stablecoins, taking its broader total above $5.37 billion when those tokens are included.

The six-month figures placed XRPL ahead of several larger smart-contract networks for new tokenized asset value. Solana added about $1.6 billion, while Avalanche attracted roughly $972 million. Ethereum remained the largest home for distributed tokenized assets, but its net addition during the measured period was lower at about $424 million.

The latest rise continues a trend visible earlier in 2026.XRPL moved into sixth place in the tokenized RWA rankings in February after adding $354 million in one month. A crypto.news report in July found that tokenized assets on the ledger had passed $3 billion as developers added compliance tools, permissioned trading and proposed lending features.

A few months ago, Solana users were competing with higher priority fees just to get transactions included during peak activity. Now, the focus is shifting to something less visible but potentially more important: the base fee.
With on-chain governance now live, Solana's community can vote on protocol upgrades, including future changes to how transaction fees are calculated.
The discussion centers on moving from today's flat per-signature base fee to a resource-based fee model, where transactions pay based on the network resources they actually consume. If adopted, this could:
Price network resources more efficiently.
Make spam more expensive.
Improve validator incentives.
Potentially increase SOL burned during periods of high activity.
This follows the approval of SIMD-0096, which now directs 100% of priority fees to validators, further reshaping Solana's fee economics.
For me, the biggest takeaway isn't just lower or higher fees—it's that fee policy has become something the community can actively govern. As governance evolves, incentive design may become just as important as transaction speed.
