The “Fear & Greed Index” is an indicator created by Alternative that tells us about the average sentiment present among traders in the Bitcoin and wider cryptocurrency markets. The index takes into account for the data of the following five factors to determine the investor mentality: trading volume, market cap dominance, volatility, social media sentiment, and Google Trends.

To represent the market sentiment, the metric makes use of a numerical scale running from zero to hundred. All values on this scale that lie below 47 correspond to a net sentiment of fear, while those above 53 suggest the dominance of greed among investors. Naturally, the values lying between these two cutoffs imply a neutral mentality.

Besides these three main zones, there are also two ‘extreme’ regions called the extreme fear (25 and under) and extreme greed (above 75). Historically, these two have held significance for the market as they have been where major tops and bottoms have tended to form.

The relationship between prices and sentiment has been an inverse one, however, with tops appearing during extreme greed and bottoms alongside extreme fear.

Recently, the crypto sector has been stuck in the latter of the two, as the below chart shows.

Ethereum price is basically stuck right under a ceiling, and $2,400 is the level doing all the damage, because it lines up with both resistance and the 100-day EMA, and every push into it keeps getting rejected.

The structure underneath still looks solid, though, with price holding above the 20 and 50-day averages, which keeps the bias slightly bullish as long as that holds.

Momentum is kind of neutral right now, RSI is sitting in the middle, and MACD is still weak but flattening, which usually means a bigger move is building but has not picked a direction yet.

If ETH can break above $2,400 with real volume, that is where things open up quickly toward $2,500 and higher, because the structure is already in place for continuation.

But if it keeps failing at this level, a pullback becomes more likely, with $2,200 as the first area that needs to hold, and if that goes, it can slide further down fast.

So this is one of those tight setups where everything comes down to one level, break it, and it runs, fail it again, and it pulls back.

Circle unveils USDC Bridge for native cross-chain stablecoin transfers

Stablecoin issuer Circle has launched $USDC Bridge, enabling users to transfer $USDC natively between at least 17 blockchains without needing to rely on wrapped or synthetic tokens.

On Friday, Circle’s $USDC X account said the bridge allows users to move the $USDC ($USDC) stablecoin in a “predictable, transparent way,” citing a native burn-and-mint transfer mechanism and no bridge complexities.

Gas fees will be handled automatically, fees will be shown upfront, and live status updates will be provided throughout the transfer, Circle added.

The $USDC Bridge builds on Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), which was introduced in April 2023 and facilitates hundreds of millions of stablecoin transfers each day.

Cross-chain bridges seek to make the broader crypto ecosystem interoperable, functioning as a unified network rather than a collection of fragmented, isolated blockchains.

Making bridges as simple and easy to use as possible has been an area of focus for many crypto infrastructure firms.
