Bitmine, the world’s largest Ethereum treasury firm, has scaled its holdings to 4.97 million ETH, or 4.12% of the circulating supply.

The firm is now about 1 million ETH away from its 5% supply target, or about 6 million ETH. 

The firm reported that it bought 101,627 ETH, the largest bid since December 2025. In the first and second weeks of April, it scooped 71.3K ETH and 71.9K ETH, respectively. In other words, last week’s bid was 41% higher than the previous buying.  In fact, in the last week of March, Bitmine acquired 65.3K ETH, underscoring an increased pace of purchases in the past four weeks. Commenting on April’s accelerated buying spree, Tom Lee, Bitmine’s chairman, said, Our base case; ETH is in the final stages of the ‘mini-crypto winter.’ We see growing signs that the ‘mini-crypto’ winter is coming to an end. As downside tail risks for the US-Iran war diminish, ETH has risen 41% from its early February lows.Since February, the altcoin has bounced from $1.74K to the 2026 peak of $2.46K. At the time of writing, ETH traded at $2.31K, underscoring that it had given back part of the recent gains.

However, according to Lee, the ongoing crypto winter was nearing an end. He added, 

While many believe the crypto winter may last through the Fall of 2026, our view remains that the crypto winter is much closer to ending.

Every major crypto winter since 2015 has coincided with an equity drawdown of at least 20%. In fact, the 2025 crypto drawdown moved in sync with the 20% decline in the S&P 500. But in 2026, the equity decline has been milder at -8%.On-chain data echoed Lee’s projections.

According to Realized Price Bands, a key metric that has flagged past cycle tops and bottoms, ETH was currently at a pivotal price zone.

Crypto markets turned decisively higher over the last 24 hours, snapping a tense stretch of geopolitically driven volatility and pulling Bitcoin back above a level that had recently looked harder to reclaim. The renewed strength mattered because it suggested traders were willing to rebuild risk exposure even after a sharp drop below $74,000 earlier this week. BTC climbed past $76,000 and traded around $76,400, marking a daily gain of roughly 2%.

But that story might already be shifting. At a Hong Kong festival, Vitalik Buterin outlined a new Ethereum [ETH] roadmap. Instead of trying to compete on speed, the focus is moving toward making the network more secure. It’s a clear pivot away from the earlier “faster is better” mindset.

Building on its US success, crypto exchange Coinbase has rolled out crypto-backed USDC loans for UK residents, using Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) as collateral. This expands the exchange’s growing suite of financial services in the region.

Crypto-Backed Loans Cross The Pond

On Monday, Coinbase, the largest crypto exchange in the US, announced that it has expanded its Borrow product to UK residents, unlocking more liquidity for users without having to sell their crypto holdings.

UK customers can now instantly borrow USDC using their Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Coinbase Wrapped Staked Ether (cbETH) as collateral, powered by Morpho, an on-chain protocol on the Base network.

Notably, Coinbase users will be able to borrow up to $5 million in USDC for Bitcoin-backed loans, depending on the amount of BTC pledged as collateral, the announcement explained.

The crypto exchange stated that collateral will be locked in a Morpho smart contract until the loan is fully repaid, and there is no fixed repayment schedule. However, it will be liquidated to repay the loan if the loan-to-value ratio exceeds a certain threshold, and Morpho will charge a liquidation penalty fee.

According to the Monday announcement, the launch expands access to the exchange’s crypto-backed lending service, which has seen multi-billion-dollar demand since launch in the US last year.

Providing access to crypto-backed loans in the UK is the first step in Coinbase’s ongoing efforts to expand following the launch of this offering in the US in January 2025. Initial interest in the service in the US has been substantial with total loan originations through Coinbase on Morpho growing to over $2.17B USDC as of April 14, 2026. Coinbase plans to continue expanding access to crypto-backed loans in more countries in the near future.
