Ethereum NFT platform Foundation shuts down after failed acquisition deal.

Foundation, once a leading Ethereum-based NFT marketplace during the 2021 boom, has officially announced its closure after a planned sale to digital art platform Blackdove fell through. The company’s founder stated that the goal of the deal was to ensure long-term sustainability under new ownership, but that is no longer possible.

Since its launch in 2021, Foundation facilitated over $230 million in primary NFT sales, supporting well-known digital artists and high-profile works, including Edward Snowden’s “Stay Free,” which sold for approximately $5 million at the time.

The shutdown reflects the broader decline in NFT market activity following its peak in 2021–2022. Reduced liquidity and falling trading volumes have made it difficult for independent platforms to survive. Several other NFT marketplaces, including Nifty Gateway, MakersPlace, and X2Y2, have either shut down or shifted focus away from NFTs.

Despite the downturn, OpenSea remains the dominant player in the NFT space, holding a majority share of trading activity. Some industry leaders still believe the NFT sector could recover in the future, but current trends show ongoing consolidation and reduced market participation.

If Wall Street's embrace of crypto has happened in fits and starts, this week that all changed.

Not only are some of the bluest-blooded banks and financial institutions diving into digital assets, but they're iterating products for their more conservative customers.

Goldman Sachs, the $3.6 trillion asset management firm, finally filed a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund. Unlike BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF, which is officially the largest crypto ETF on the market, Goldman's product has a unique twist.

Namely, the fund rarely touches any actual Bitcoin.

Instead, the Goldman Sachs Bitcoin Premium Income ETF is comprised mostly of other spot Bitcoin ETFs. It then sells call options on those funds to offer investors a steady yield.

$BTC was changing hands near $74,700 in early Asia trading Friday, up 3.5% on the week but down 0.4% on the day as a 10-day global equity rally paused ahead of next week’s Iran ceasefire deadline. The asset has climbed from the mid-$60,000s through March and April despite persistently negative funding, meaning shorts have been paying longs for weeks while price continued to grind higher.

The Funding Rate Signal

Funding rates are periodic payments between long and short holders in perpetual futures contracts, designed to keep contract prices aligned with spot. When rates go negative, shorts pay longs — a condition that only develops when speculative positioning is tilted heavily against price. The 7-day moving average rate has dropped to approximately -0.005%, per Glassnode data, a reading last seen at the FTX crash bottom in late 2022.

“Funding rates this negative tell you the market is heavily short,” Reis-Faria said. “If Bitcoin continues to move higher despite that, a lot of those positions could get liquidated, and the move can accelerate quickly.” He targets $125,000 within 30 to 60 d

Circle is facing a class action lawsuit from a group of Drift Protocol investors who lost money in the $280 million exploit on April 1, one of the largest hacks in DeFi history.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by law firm Gibbs Mura, accused Circle Internet Financial of failing to act swiftly to freeze the stolen USDC (USDC) tied to the attack.

"Circle allegedly took no action to freeze the funds, despite having the technical and contractual authority to do so," the lawyers said in a statement on Wednesday.

Drift Protocol, a Solana-based decentralized exchange, suffered an exploit after an attacker gained unauthorized access to the platform, introduced a malicious asset, and removed withdrawal limits to drain the funds, the Drift team said. The incident gained more traction after Drift revealed the perpetrators had spent six months posing as a quantitative trading firm.

Onchain investigator ZachXBT has criticized Circle for not freezing USDC linked to the exploit quickly enough. "[Six] hours is how long Circle had to freeze stolen funds from the $280M+ Drift hack," ZachXBT wrote, alleging that the attacker moved over $230 million worth of USDC from Solana to Ethereum via Circle's cross-chain transfer protocol.

The lawsuit further alleged that, nine days earlier, Circle had frozen 16 unrelated wallets in a separate civil case, "demonstrating both the capability and willingness to act."
