Publicly traded Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings may sell more of its BTC as part of a strategy shift, the firm said in a new SEC filing.

Publicly traded Bitcoin miner MARA could sell more from its $3.6 billion Bitcoin stash in a strategy shift that could fuel a deeper push into Al, the firm reported in a newly filed 10K form with the SEC.

The firm, which held 53,822 Bitcoin at the close of 2025, sold around $413 million worth of Bitcoin last year, according to the filing. Its new strategy might have it offloading even more this year.

"Historically, we held the Bitcoin we produced as a long-term investment," the firm wrote. "In the second half of 2025, we made a strategic change to our Bitcoin investment approach and opted to sell a portion of the Bitcoin produced from our mining operations to fund ongoing operating expenses, and continued to sell Bitcoin through the year end."

His core objection is that the Clarity Act would treat newly launched digital assets as securities first, then require them to convince the SEC they qualify to “graduate” into commodity status once their networks are sufficiently decentralized. In Hoskinson’s reading, that framework would have captured XRP, Cardano and Ethereum at launch. The difference, he argued, is that older networks may ultimately be grandfathered in, while future projects would face a regulatory maze from day one.

Hoskinson repeatedly returned to the same question: what, in practice, stops the SEC from keeping a token classified as a security indefinitely? “If it starts as a security, what stops them from keeping it as a security forever?” he asked. “And are we really sure that we can trust that to rulemaking that has yet to happen by people who have yet to be appointed by agencies that spent the last four [expletive] years suing everybody and throwing everybody in prison?”

The crypto market has been resilient amid the Iran escalations, at least for now.

However, Fundstrat’s Tom Lee expects March to be net positive for risk assets.

In a CNBC interview, Lee said,

“The worst of the sell-off is going to happen this week. I would expect March to be an ‘up-month’ for the stock market.”

In a separate social media post, Lee reiterated that crypto could also benefit from the potential stock market recovery. He added,

“We understand war headlines make investors nervous, but we expect stocks to be up in March: led by MAG7, software $IGV, and crypto $BTC $ETH.”

For Lee, the crypto and MAG7 (tech) had prior weakness and maybe were in the final bottoming stage, adding that it could lead to an ‘up April.’

Bitcoin vs. Iran escalations

Despite Lee’s optimistic outlook, other analysts appeared cautious in the near term.

In its daily market update, Singapore-based trading desk QCP Capital noted a positive Options positioning but remained somewhat defensive.

“Despite the larger scale versus last June’s strike, price action is not flashing panic. Saturday flows included 1,000x BTC-27MAR26-74k-C and 4,000x BTC-27MAR26-75k-C, suggesting some are positioning for a March rebound after five consecutive down months.”

This meant some sophisticated players were betting on a sustained BTC price move to $74K-$75K in March. However, QCP analysts warned,

“We remain cautious. The key is whether the conflict stays contained, with escalation pathways and maritime stability in focus, particularly the Strait of Hormuz.”

At the time of writing, the market was pricing a potential hawkish rate cut pause ahead of the Fed meeting on the 18th of March, especially if the Iran escalations persist and affect oil prices and inflation.

This could dent risk sentiment and cap the expected market recovery.
