The ongoing geopolitical turmoil in Iran has affected the country's vast crypto industry, valued at more than $7.78 billion. According to Chainalysis, most crypto exchanges in the country are now offline, with no clear indication of what might have disrupted operations. This has raised concerns about how Iranian crypto investors will access their funds during this conflict.

Iranian Crypto Exchanges Go Offline

In an X post, Chainalysis noted that Nobitex and Ramzinex, two of Iran's largest crypto exchanges, are currently offline. However, there was no indication of what could have caused this outage, given that the country is experiencing internet disruptions due to ongoing US strikes.

Crypto has often been a go-to option during political uncertainties due to its global accessibility and portability. Therefore, with exchanges offline, Iranians might not be able to access their funds, as withdrawals tend to increase during periods of uncertainty.

South Korea investigates seed phrase leak in photo leading to $4.8 million crypto theft from tax authority

The National Tax Service said it had intended to provide a vivid shot of the seizure by sharing a photo.
South Korea's National Tax Service lost about $4.8 million in seized cryptocurrency after publicly sharing a photo that exposed hardware wallet seed phrases.

The incident is the country's second major loss of seized crypto, following a 2021 case involving 22 BTC held by police.

Authorities have asked police to help recover the stolen funds and pledged an external security review.
South Korean tax authorities lost $4.8 million of seized crypto after displaying the relevant wallets' seed phrases in a photograph covering the Feb. 26 event.

The crypto was taken immediately after the National Tax Service (NTS) shared a photo that included hardware wallets and their secret phrases.

Bitcoin is, above all else, a liquidity sponge. The current expansion of Global Liquidity M2, a measure of global liquidity that takes into account cash, checking and savings deposits, money market securities, and other near-cash assets, is the macro tailwind that bearish traders are overlooking.

As central banks from the ECB to the Fed signal or enact rate cuts, the cost of capital decreases, forcing money out of risk-free assets and into growth vehicles.

Historically, Bitcoin’s parabolic runs align perfectly with cycles of M2 expansion. We are currently in the early stages of a global easing cycle. While inflation data may cause temporary pauses in the Fed’s roadmap, the broader trend is clear: money printers are warming up.

Given the historic lag between M2 liquidity expansion cycles and Bitcoin bull markets, the injections hitting the system now will likely reflect in asset prices in Q4 2024 and Q1 2025.

Traders betting on a crash are effectively betting against the central bank liquidity cycle, a wager that rarely pays off in the crypto markets.
