Bitcoin Price Prediction: Sentiment Points Bearish Bear Market Pattern, But It’s Not a Bad Thing

Bitcoin price prediction is bearish, according to CryptoQuant’s head of research. According to the reading, the current condition is a mirror comparison to March 2022. BTC sentiment indicators are flashing bearish even as short-term projection points at a modest upside.

Bitcoin’s rally hit resistance at the 200-day moving average around the $82,000 level before pulling back to as low as $76,000. According to CryptoQuant’s Julio Moreno, the same pattern is uncomfortably matched by March 2022, when BTC surged 43% from its lows, kissed the 200-day MA, and resumed its downtrend.

This time, BTC rose by 37% from its April 2025 lows before facing the same ceiling. Spot demand is contracting, speculative futures demand dried up above $82K, and U.S. spot ETFs flipped to net sellers, offloading around 4,000 BTC after buying as much as 64,000 BTC over a prior 30-day window.

The macro structure has not healed. It has just been bandaged, and the bearish technical overlay deserves a closer look.


Bitcoin Price Prediction: $82,400 Resistance Battling $73K Retest
Bitcoin is trading in a $76,000–$78,000 consolidation band with near-term projections pointing to $78,000. The chart leans slightly more optimistic, targeting $79,000 with a potential spike toward $82,000, though its indicator tally reads 10 sells vs. 7 buys.


Support sits at $76,000 with resistance stacks above $79,000, and ultimately the decisive 200-day MA zone at $82,000. According to Cryptoquant, a failure to reclaim the 200-day MA is “the strongest technical confirmation that the bear market remains structurally intact.”

The weight of evidence tilts toward the base-to-bear scenario. Structurally, the chart is not broken, but it is not healthy either.

Bitcoin retakes the 200-day moving average on the way downIn this month of May 2026 the price of Bitcoin has in fact returned to the 200-day moving average.

The problem is that this average has been falling for five months, and shows no signs of reversal.

This leads some analysts to argue that the decline in the price of Bitcoin could continue precisely by following that of the 200-day moving average.

The 200-day moving average
The simple 200-day moving average (SMA200) has become one of the most closely watched technical indicators for those who analyze price trends on financial markets.

However, it was identified as a reference point many years ago, well before cryptocurrencies were created.

The fact is that traditional stock exchanges have about 250 trading days a year, because they are closed on weekends and holidays. Instead, the crypto market is always open, 365 days a year.

200 days is a convenient proxy for “almost a year” of prices on traditional exchanges, and it is used to eliminate short-term noise and show the structural trend of an asset’s price. The SMA200 is slow enough to filter out daily volatility, but reactive enough to capture genuine regime changes, such as those between bull markets and bear markets.

Moreover, banks, hedge funds, algorithms and retail traders watch it, so that for example when a price falls below the SMA200 many operators interpret it as a possible sell signal.

However, it is in fact a coordinated convention, and not an economic/financial law.

The crypto market
Applying the SMA200 to crypto assets can make sense, but only as long as the SMA365, that is the average price of the last year, is not underestimated.

In early trading, Ethereum price today sits around $2,130, lodged under every key daily moving average and hovering near the lower Bollinger Band as intraday mean reversion attempts build.

Meanwhile, broader crypto is cautious (Fear & Greed at 29, Bitcoin dominance near 58%), which typically starves $ETH of leadership flows. The dominant force is defensive positioning on the daily timeframe, while short-term traders probe for bounces against nearby support.

Overall, daily (macro bias): bearish. Price is below the 20/50/200-day EMAs and momentum is soft. Mean-reversion bids exist near the lower band, but the trend still has the ball.

However, 1H (tactical): neutral. $ETH is oscillating around hourly pivots with flat momentum—good for two-way trade, not yet a trend reversal.

That said, 15m (execution): leaning weak but stabilizing. Price sits beneath the 15m 20/50 EMAs but clings to the 200 EMA, signaling a tug-of-war between short-covering and fresh supply.

EMAs — D1: 20-day 2,223.6; 50-day 2,243.3; 200-day 2,602.9. H1: 20/50 near 2,134/2,132; 200 at 2,181.4. M15: 20/50 ~2,136; 200 at 2,129.5. Short-term curves are flat to slightly above price, while all higher-timeframe averages loom overhead. That keeps rallies guilty until proven innocent and defines 2,181 and 2,223–2,243 as the first serious repair zones.

RSI — D1: 36.4; H1: 47.3; M15: 36.0. Moreover, higher timeframe momentum remains weak, intraday is neutral, and the execution layer still skews to sellers. This favors fades into resistance unless buyers flip H1 to sustained strength.

MACD — D1: line −43.1 under signal (hist −22.1); H1: line 2.45 under signal (hist −1.14); M15: negative. Furthermore, downside momentum persists on the daily and is wobbling intraday—think tired sellers, not eager buyers yet.
