The market is sliding deeper into fear, the kind of phase where conviction starts turning into capitulation.

Looking at the broader setup and Bitcoin’s [$BTC] recent pullback, this dynamic is worth paying attention to. On the macro side, after a few weeks of relative calm, U.S. President Donald Trump recently instructed the U.S. military to prepare for a potential full-scale strike on Iran. This added momentum to already rising oil prices as they push toward $110 per barrel.

For Bitcoin, this is happening at a rough spot in the cycle. As the chart shows, $BTC has, for now, been rejected at the Short-Term Holders’ cost basis, sitting near $81,000. At the same time, the STH MVRV ratio, which had tapped the 1.0 level (basically breakeven for short-term holders) has rolled over from that zone.

Put together, this setup suggests short-term holders are exiting fairly aggressively for now.

Adding to the weakness, Bitcoin ETFs started the new week with nearly $650 million in net outflows, extending last week’s $1 billion+ in redemptions. But according to CoinMarketCap, the selling pressure is broader this time. ARKB and IBIT are nearly tied for the largest outflows, each recording about $310–$324 million. In contrast, January’s redemption waves leaned more heavily on IBIT alone.

From an institutional standpoint, this points to deeper fear spreading across major players, reinforcing the risk-off tone in the market. Meanwhile, Santiment recently noted rising FUD around Bitcoin across social media platforms. In essence, macro FUD now looks like it’s shifting from conviction into early-stage capitulation, raising the question: Is Bitcoin’s recent correction the start of a deeper unwind?

Rising market fear can cut both ways: Either investors panic sell or step in to buy the FUD.

Echo Protocol is investigating a security incident involving its bridge on Monad after crypto on-chain analysts said an attacker minted 1,000 eBTC and used part of the position to extract WBTC liquidity through Curvance.

The first public alarm came from on-chain analyst DCF GOD, who wrote that Echo “may be hacked on Monad.” He added: “Someone minted 1k ebtc out of nowhere, max borrowed wbtc against it on Curvance, bridged, and tornado away.” A follow-up post pointed to a Monad transaction showing a 1,000 eBTC transfer on May 18 at 21:21:32 UTC.

$76M Crypto Mint Sparks Alarm
Lookonchain later mapped the reported sequence in more detail. According to the account, the attacker minted 1,000 eBTC, valued at about $76.64 million, deposited 45 eBTC worth roughly $3.45 million into Curvance, borrowed 11.3 WBTC worth about $867,000, bridged the WBTC to Ethereum, swapped it for 385 ETH worth about $821,000, and deposited the ETH into Tornado Cash. Lookonchain said the attacker still held 955 eBTC, valued at about $73.2 million.

Phylax Systems founder and CEO Odysseas Lamtzidis said the transaction trail pointed away from a Curvance lending flaw and toward a role-management compromise on the eBTC side. “Monad eBTC/Curvance trace: not a Curvance lending bug,” he wrote. “The eBTC admin granted DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE to 0x6A0109, who revoked admin, self-granted MINTER_ROLE, minted 1,000 eBTC, posted 45 eBTC as collateral, and borrowed ~11.296 WBTC.” Lamtzidis said the pattern “looks like admin-key/role compromise,” citing key transactions for the admin grant, mint and borrow.

Bitcoin’s price has been falling lately alongside an upswing in U.S. Treasury yields. Yet $BTC’s implied volatility, a measure of uncertainty, is acting as if none of that is true. That’s the real story because it’s setting the stage for “volatility bulls” to step in and bet on wild swings via options.

Here is the setup.

Bitcoin’s price has dropped from $82,000 to $77,000 since May 15, according to CoinDesk market data. The 6% slide is characterized by massive outflows from spot ETFs and hardening of U.S. Treasury yields. Moreover, there are signs of real stress in Treasury bonds, which underpin the global finance. The MOVE index, which measures the implied volatility in Treasury notes, has popped from 69% to 85%.

Here’s what the price trends and liquidation clusters have to say about these bullish expectations.

On the 9th of April, $ZEC climbed past the $333 local high, flipping its price structure bullishly. The Fibonacci retracement levels (yellow) show that the weekly structure was bullish.

The rally in April came after $ZEC tested the 78.6% retracement level at $187 during the February crash.

The higher timeframe bullish swing structure, a positive reaction at a key retracement level, and a bullish structural shift on a lower timeframe (the daily here) all point toward one thing.

The bulls are in control. The wider market chaos and fears of inflation can negatively affect Bitcoin [$BTC] and $ZEC in turn. As things stand, investors have reason to stay positive.

Holders can use a move to the $750 and $918 to take profits while keeping an eye on $BTC trends.

The 1-month liquidation heatmap highlighted the $600 region as a magnetic zone with sizeable short liquidations. The $480 region was another area that $ZEC could sweep in the coming days.

Given the Zcash trend and the Bitcoin bullish structure (at least price-wise), it is more probable that the price would test the liquidity around $600 and continue its upward momentum.
