#Crypto has spent years acting like attention and activity are basically the same thing. If traffic surges, the market must be alive. If specialist media cools off, the assumption is that interest is cooling off too. It is an easy habit to fall into, especially in an industry that grew up on narratives, cycles, and headlines. Still, 2025 made that habit much harder to defend. A recent Outset Data Pulse report shows a market that kept buzzing even as traffic to crypto-native media moved the other way. The more interesting part is not just that crypto media weakened. It is that the largest crypto audience was still sitting outside crypto-native media altogether. Mainstream Media Held The Real Scale Looking at traffic across 349 outlets tracked through the recently launched Outset Media Index (OMI), the report found that crypto-native media still pulled in more than one billion visits across 2025, which sounds big until you look at how the year actually unfolded. Traffic started at around 106 million visits in January and ended the year at just under 71 million in December. That’s a drop of a bit more than 33%. There were a few moments when things bounced, especially in July, but those bumps were minor. By the time the year was closing out, crypto-native media was clearly drawing less attention than it had at the start. What makes it even more telling is that the audience was still spread all over the place. This was never a market held up by just two or three giant brands. The top ten outlets together made up only about a quarter of total crypto-native traffic, while the long tail, smaller publications most people barely mention in broad media conversations, still carried most of the audience. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson used one of his most confrontational videos in recent memory to argue that Bitcoin’s long-running resistance to structural change has left it exposed to the quantum computing threat now surfacing in debate around BIP 361. His core claim was blunt: Bitcoin’s governance culture, not just its cryptography, is now the problem.

In the livestream, titled “BIP 361: Welcome to ShitcoinLand, Bitcoin,” Hoskinson framed the proposal as an overdue admission from parts of the Bitcoin world that quantum risk is no longer theoretical. The Cardano founder pointed to language in the proposal stating that, as of March 1, 2026, more than 34% of all Bitcoin had revealed public keys on-chain, leaving those UTXOs vulnerable to theft by an attacker with a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. In his telling, that amounts to roughly 8 million BTC exposed to a future break in Bitcoin’s current signature assumptions.

Cardano Founder Attacks Bitcoin Developer Community
Hoskinson’s attack centered on two related claims. First, he argued that the response implied by BIP 361 would require a hard fork, even if described otherwise. Second, he said any forced migration to post-quantum addresses would create a deeper problem for coins held in older wallet formats that cannot be recovered through the kind of proof system he says the proposal imagines.

Schwab launches direct crypto trading in coming weeks to 39 million customers

Charles Schwab announced this week it will begin offering direct cryptocurrency trading to everyday investors in the coming weeks, allowing customers to buy and sell bitcoin and ethereum alongside their traditional investments.

The new service, called Schwab Crypto, will charge 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade, positioning itself among the lowest-cost options in the industry. Customers will be able to view and manage their digital assets next to stocks and bonds across Schwab’s website, mobile app, and thinkorswim trading platform.

“We know our clients want to conduct more of their financial lives at Schwab,” said Jonathan Craig, Head of Retail Investing at Charles Schwab. “With Schwab Crypto, clients who want direct access to the asset class can trade it alongside their other investments, while benefiting from the service, education, and research they expect from us.”

The brokerage surveyed nearly 500 current and prospective cryptocurrency investors between July 31 and September 1, 2025. Respondents identified three key factors when choosing where to trade digital assets: low and transparent pricing, brand familiarity and reputation, and confidence that their holdings would remain secure.

Schwab will start with bitcoin and ethereum, which together represent approximately three-quarters of the cryptocurrency market value. The firm plans to add more digital currencies over time and will eventually allow customers to transfer crypto they already own into their Schwab accounts.

Charles Schwab Premier Bank will serve as custodian, responsible for safekeeping and record-keeping of customer assets. Paxos, a blockchain infrastructure provider regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, will handle sub-custody and trade execution behind the scene
