Ripple prepares to release almost $1.5 billion of XRP in less than 2 weeks

Ripple is set to unlock 1 billion XRP from its escrow contracts on May 1, continuing a monthly release program established in 2017.

At the time, the company placed 55 billion XRP into cryptographically secured escrow on the XRP Ledger to improve transparency and predictability around supply.

Under this mechanism, 1 billion XRP becomes available at the start of each month. The structured approach was designed to address concerns about Ripple's large holdings and to avoid sudden market shocks.

Now, the May release is another routine step in a schedule expected to run through at least 2027, as the escrowed balance gradually declines.

With XRP currently trading at $1.47, the upcoming unlock carries a notional value of about $1.47 billion, though the actual figure will vary with price movements.

A Nevada-based company, Dogecoin Cash Inc., has introduced an ambitious new concept called “Dogecoin Gold,” aiming to link blockchain tokens directly to physical gold reserves.
The proposal comes as Dogecoin recently recovered to the $0.10 level, marking roughly a 15% rebound over the past two weeks — adding fresh attention to the broader meme-crypto ecosystem.
A Gold-Backed Token Structure
Under the proposed model, each digital token would represent a fixed amount of physical gold held in custody by an independent, institutional-grade storage provider.
The structure outlined by the company suggests:
1 billion tokens = 1 gram of gold
Tokens would only be minted when new gold is deposited
Tokens would be permanently removed from circulation when redeemed for physical gold
The company says this mechanism is designed to ensure a direct, verifiable link between digital supply and real-world assets, with full traceability and reserve backing.
Bridging Blockchain and Physical Assets
The core idea behind “Dogecoin Gold” is to combine the transparency of blockchain systems with the stability of commodity-backed assets. The goal is to make gold more accessible, divisible, and easier to transfer digitally, while maintaining strict auditability of reserves.
If implemented, the system would rely on a public blockchain with standardized token infrastructure and third-party verification of reserves.
Still Early Stage
Despite the detailed framework, the project is still in the evaluation phase. Dogecoin Cash Inc. has confirmed that:
No tokens have been issued
No final decisions have been made on custody, regulation, or design
The launch timeline remains undecided
Entering a Competitive Space
If launched, Dogecoin Cash would enter an already established sector dominated by existing gold-backed tokens such as PAX Gold and Tether Gold, both of which already provide blockchain-based exposure to physical gold with verified custody systems.

SEC charges Bitcoin Latinum founder over alleged $16M investor fraud

The US SEC brought enforcement action against Donald G. Basile and his companies, GIBF GP, Inc. and Monsoon Blockchain Corporation, over a $16 million crypto securities offering tied to Bitcoin Latinum (LTNM), which Basile launched in 2020.

According to the SEC, Basile, through GIBF and Monsoon, sold Simple Agreements for Future Tokens (SAFTs), promising future delivery of a token called Bitcoin Latinum, which ultimately failed.

Regulators claim Basile misrepresented key aspects of the project, including nonexistent insurance coverage, false claims of asset backing, and misleading statements about how investor funds would be used to support the token ecosystem.

The SEC also alleges that rather than using investor funds as promised, the entrepreneur misappropriated millions for personal uses, including real estate purchases, credit card payments, and a high-value horse.

The project ultimately failed. LTNM was never properly launched or listed on major exchanges, activity ceased, and the token became worthless, leaving investors with major losses.

The SEC charges GIBF and Monsoon with violating the anti-fraud provisions of federal securities laws and that Basile is directly liable as well as responsible for aiding the violations.

The SEC is seeking permanent injunctions, repayment of ill-gotten gains with interest, civil penalties, and a ban preventing Basile from serving as an officer or director of a public company, along with other equitable remedies.
