Will Solana drop below $80 as downward pressure builds?



Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Ripple ($XRP) are all trading in the red as the broader crypto market feels the pressure of the US-Iran conflict.

Bitcoin’s price has slipped below $71,000, while Ether and $XRP are trading below $2,200 and $1.35, respectively.

Solana’s $SOL is also underperforming and could face further selling pressure in the near term. The coin is trading at $81 on Monday, after a 4% decline on Sunday, which aligned with the broader cryptocurrency market correction.

At the moment, Solana remains on a downside trajectory after reversing from an overhead trendline, while institutional demand whipsaws and retail interest declines. Momentum indicators also suggest that sellers are in control, with a possible correction to the $77 support level on the cards.

ETF outflows add selling pressure to Solana

Solana has been underperforming since Tuesday after failing to overcome the $88 swing high level. It lost 4% of its value on Sunday and has continued its poor performance into Monday.

Similar to other leading cryptocurrencies, $SOL is facing mixed-to-slightly bearish reactions in the institutional and derivatives markets amid the US-Iran blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Data obtained from CoinGlass revealed that the Solana Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) recorded [MONEY value="11450000" currency="usd" notation="long" replace="false"] in inflows on Friday, limiting the weekly outflow to [MONEY value="5620000" currency="usd" notation="long" replace="false"]. Friday’s inflow suggests that institutions remain interested in Solana but also marks the third consecutive weekly outflow.

Bitfinex argues that the “main shift is infrastructure” as on‑chain commodities are used in lending, trading and treasury operations with “real‑time transfer, global auditability, and improved transparency” compared with traditional settlement rails. Gold remains the dominant category, with Tether Gold (XAUt) holding around 40% of the tokenized commodities segment by market value, positioning it as the key benchmark for tokenized bullion. Tether itself has said XAUt now accounts for “more than half the entire gold‑backed stablecoin market,” with over $4 billion in supply as institutional demand for tokenized safe‑haven assets accelerates. Bitfinex’s analysis points to a broadening product mix beyond precious metals, with oil, natural gas and agricultural products quickly gaining share. Tokenized soybeans and soybean oil each now represent about $400 million of the market, while green‑finance related commodities and credits total roughly $850 million in value, reflecting how climate‑linked RWAs are being structured directly on‑chain. Amazon is reportedly close to finalizing a deal involving Globalstar, with Bloomberg suggesting an official announcement could come as early as Tuesday. The move has drawn renewed attention to Amazon’s long-term ambitions in satellite communications and its broader competition with Starlink.
At the same time, Goldman Sachs slightly lowered its Amazon price target from $280 to $275 while maintaining a Buy rating ahead of upcoming earnings. Despite the adjustment, Wall Street remains broadly optimistic, with a Strong Buy consensus and price targets ranging widely from $175 to $360. Amazon shares currently trade around $239.89, still below most analyst targets.
A Push to Close the Gap With Starlink
If completed, the Amazon–Globalstar deal would give Amazon a faster path into the satellite internet race. Amazon’s Project Leo currently has around 180 satellites in orbit, but it still lags significantly behind SpaceX’s Starlink network, which operates more than 10,000 satellites.
Acquiring Globalstar’s spectrum assets and ground infrastructure could allow Amazon to scale more quickly than building entirely from scratch. The deal also includes access to valuable L-band spectrum licenses across more than 120 countries, strengthening Amazon’s global communications footprint.
However, the deal is not without complications. Apple, which holds a significant stake in Globalstar following a $1.5 billion investment, may need to approve any final agreement.
From Cloud to Space: Amazon’s Expanding Ambition
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has previously highlighted the strategic importance of Project Leo, emphasizing its potential advantages in performance, cost efficiency, and integration with AWS.
He noted that the system is expected to deliver significantly improved uplink and downlink performance while reducing costs and enabling seamless data integration with Amazon’s cloud and AI infrastructure.
