U.S. bitcoin ETF weekly outflows largest since November may signal BTC price bottomU.S. bitcoin BTC$89,477.17 exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded their largest weekly outflows since November in a possible sign the largest cryptocurrency may be about to rebound.


A net $1.22 billion left the market in the four days ended Thursday, with Tuesday and Wednesday seeing withdrawals of $479.7 million and $708.7 million, respectively, according to data from SoSoValue. Bitcoin dropped 5% in the same period and is now little changed since the start of the year.


Periods of heavy ETF outflows often coincide with local bottoms in the bitcoin price. In November, which also saw a four-day withdrawal of $1.22 billion, bitcoin formed a low around $80,000 before recovering to above $90,000 in the days that followed.


A similar pattern emerged in March 2025, just before President Trump’s tariff turmoil, when bitcoin dropped to $76,000. In August 2024 bitcoin bottomed near $49,000 as the yen carry trade unwound.


The average cost basis for ETF investors currently stands at $84,099. According to Glassnode data, this level has acted as a key area of support, notably during the November pullback near $80,000 as well as in April 2025.

Revolut drops U.S. bank merger plan to seek standalone license: FT


Revolut, a U.K. fintech that offers crypto trading, scrapped plans to buy a U.S. bank and will instead apply for a standalone banking license as it expands in the world’s largest financial market, the Financial Times reported Friday.


The London-based company had sought to fast-track its entry into the American banking system by acquiring a chartered U.S. lender, a move that would have allowed it to operate across all 50 states.


But the company, which last year reached a $75 billion valuation in a secondary share sale, concluded that an acquisition would be slower and more complicated than expected, the FT said, citing sources familiar with the situation. A purchase would probably have required it to keep physical branches, undermining its digital-only model.


Instead it is pursuing a "de novo" banking license from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). A de novo banking license is one given to new banks. Company insiders are betting that a revamped OCC under the Trump administration will process applications faster, according to the FT.


Revolut said the U.S. remains “critical” to its global ambitions and confirmed it's exploring multiple routes, including the de novo process. No final decision has been made.


While the U.S. regulatory landscape is fragmented, recent approvals, including banking charters granted to crypto firms like stablecoin issuer Circle Internet and international payments network Ripple, suggest a more fintech-friendly tone from regulators.


Revolut has also been pushing deeper into crypto. Last month, it partnered with Trust Wallet to enable instant cryptocurrency purchases in the European Union with zero fees in some cases. It's also secured a MiCA license via Cyprus, giving it regulatory approval to offer crypto servi

US prosecutors abandon OpenSea insider trading case
US prosecutors will not retry their insider trading case against a former manager at nonfungible token platform OpenSea after a federal appeals court overturned the convictions in July.

On Wednesday, prosecutors told a Manhattan federal court that they entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with Nathaniel Chastain and will dismiss their case after the agreement ends in a month.

In a letter, Manhattan US Attorney Jay Clayton said the decision was made based on Chastain already serving parts of his initial sentence, including three months behind bars, and that he agreed not to contest the forfeiture of 15.98 Ether (ETH) worth $47,330 that he allegedly made from insider trades.

“The interest of the United States will be best served by deferring prosecution of this matter and not retrying the case,” Clayton wrote.

A jury convicted Chastain of wire fraud and money laundering in 2023, with prosecutors accusing him of using his knowledge to buy NFTs that would be featured on OpenSea’s website and later selling them after their prices jumped from being featured.

Jury given flawed instructions, says appeals court

Chastain was sentenced to three months in prison and a $50,000 fine, but a federal appeals court overturned the conviction in July, ruling that the jury was improperly instructed and that NFT homepage data without commercial value isn’t property under federal wire fraud laws.

The case marked the first digital asset insider trading case in US history and crypto backers have cited the overturned conviction to push for clearer legislation to define how digital assets fit within existing laws.
