US government transfers seized BTC to Coinbase as $22B Bitcoin stockpile expands


The US government has decided to transfer Bitcoin funds to a Coinbase Prime address following the seizure of funds from Glenn Olivio. This move has consequently increased the government’s total holding to around 328,000 $BTC, which is worth more than $22 billion, according to data from Arkham Intelligence.

Regarding this report, sources familiar with the situation disclosed that the US government moved approximately 2.438 $BTC, valued at $177,000, confiscated from Olivio, in two separate transfers sent to a similar Coinbase account starting with 3EMqu.

Similar movements have been recorded in past cases, including funds associated with Ross Ulbricht, the creator of Silk Road.

The US expresses a strong commitment to boost its Bitcoin stockpile

Last month, the US government successfully made its first on-chain transaction in 2026, transferring approximately 0.33 $BTC, valued at around $23,000, linked to a wallet titled “Miguel Villanueva Seized Funds.”

Following the three separate transfers, reliable sources noted that the first transaction consisted of about 0.05678428 $BTC, the Second around 0.24020319 $BTC, and the third approximately 0.03782683 $BTC, bringing the total to 0.3348143 $BTC, valued at around $22,876.55 at today’s price.

Nonetheless, reports highlighted that publicly available government statements and court documents failed to disclose further information about Villanueva or the main reason for the seizure.

This report was made public shortly after blockchain investigator ZachXBT, popular for his independent forensic investigations into cryptocurrency fraud, scams, and thefts, alleged that $40 million in cryptocurrency was removed from government-controlled seizure wallets. TD Cowen this week initiated equity research coverage on three public Bitcoin treasury companies (PBTCs) and one Ethereum digital asset treasury, publishing proprietary valuation models and KPIs specific to the sector.

The move marks one of the more concrete steps a major bank has taken to build formal research infrastructure around Bitcoin-focused equities.

The firm’s analysts, led by Lance Vitanza, view Bitcoin as a long-term store of value — framing it in the tradition of digital gold — and project a price of roughly $140,000 by the end of 2026.

TD Cowen’s thesis holds that PBTCs, companies that accumulate Bitcoin on their balance sheets and grow holdings on a per-share basis, now constitute a distinct and “investable equity category,” distinct from both spot Bitcoin ETFs and traditional tech stocks.

Nakamoto receives a buy rating

Among the companies covered, Nakamoto Holdings (NASDAQ: NAKA) received a buy rating and a $1.00 price target, compared to its April 8 closing price of $0.21. TD Cowen’s model projects $394 million in Bitcoin gains for fiscal year 2027, applying a 2x multiple to that estimate.

Nakamoto differentiates from other PBTCs through minority stakes in international Bitcoin treasury firms — Metaplanet in Japan and Treasury BV in the Netherlands — and operating subsidiaries in media, Bitcoin advocacy, and digital asset management.

“We are initiating coverage of Nakamoto Holdings with a BUY rating and a $1.00 price target. Our PT is based on estimated $BTC $ Gain of $394 million for FY27E, a 2x multiple, and a Bitcoin price of ~$140k at Dec-26,” the firm wrote.

Recent analysis suggests that XRP may be significantly less exposed to future quantum computing threats than Bitcoin. Specifically, experts estimate that only 0.03% of XRP’s total supply is currently at risk, compared to roughly 35% of Bitcoin’s supply.

This disparity stems largely from how each network handles public key exposure. In particular, analysts note that XRP minimizes exposure more effectively, which could translate into stronger long-term security.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has granted stablecoin issuer licenses to Standard Chartered and HSBC under the newly implemented Stablecoins Ordinance, with approvals taking immediate effect.

Both institutions are expected to roll out stablecoins in the second half of 2026, targeting use cases such as cross-border payments, domestic transactions, and digital asset trading.

HKMA Chief Executive Eddie Yue described the move as a key milestone, emphasizing the importance of balancing innovation with user protection and risk management. Deputy Chief Executive Daryl Ho added that future licenses will be issued cautiously and in limited numbers.
