Circle CEO Allaire sees 'tremendous opportunity' for yuan stablecoin: report

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said there’s a “tremendous opportunity” for a yuan-pegged stablecoin, and China could launch one within the next three to five years.

Chinese authorities have explicitly banned the offshore issuance of yuan stablecoins without regulatory approval.


Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said he sees a "tremendous opportunity" for a Chinese yuan stablecoin, particularly if Chinese authorities aim to make the yuan more competitive.

In a Thursday interview with Reuters, Allaire said that stablecoins have emerged as a new way for currencies to gain global traction, potentially supporting China's long-term goal of internationalizing the yuan.

"There's a tremendous opportunity for a yuan stablecoin," Allaire told Reuters. "If there's currency competition, you want your currency to have the best features possible. This is becoming a technological competition."

Allaire added that China could launch a yuan-backed stablecoin within the next three to five years. The Block has reached out to Circle for further comment. 

Allaire's remarks come amid growing chatter about a potential yuan stablecoin. In July 2025, Chinese tech giants Ant Group and JD reportedly urged China's central bank to authorize yuan-backed stablecoins in addition to those pegged to the Hong Kong dollar.

However, Chinese authorities have taken a cautious stance. In February 2026, the People's Bank of China and a group of key regulators issued a notice explicitly prohibiting the offshore issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins without prior regulatory approval.

New Goldman Sachs Bitcoin fund is built for advisers seeking yield, not traders chasing the next rally

Goldman plans to sell covered calls on Bitcoin-linked ETPs for yield, sometimes overwriting up to 100% exposure.
to launch an actively managed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that uses covered calls to generate income from Bitcoin.

The April 14 filing for the Goldman Sachs Bitcoin Premium Income ETF marks a strategic pivot for the investment bank, which previously had a hostile relationship with the flagship digital asset.

Moreover, what makes the new product more distinct is that Goldman is not launching a conventional spot Bitcoin product to compete in the increasingly saturated $100 billion BTC ETF market.

Instead, the banking giant is looking to engineer a moderated, yield-bearing version of Bitcoin tailored specifically for income-oriented portfolios. In this case, the firm intentionally forgoes a portion of the upside in top crypto in exchange for yield.

The proposed fund operates on a fundamentally different chassis than the spot ETFs that have dominated the market’s attention over the past two years.

According to the preliminary prospectus, the fund will not buy or hold Bitcoin directly. Instead, it will gain exposure by investing in spot Bitcoin ETPs, options on those ETPs, and options on indices that track them.

To generate its yield, the fund will systematically sell call options against that underlying exposure.

By operating as an actively managed, non-diversified fund, Goldman is positioning the ETF as a specialized wealth-management tool rather than a passive commodity tracker.

The filing details a complex operational structure to navigate regulatory constraints, including the use of a wholly owned Cayman Islands subsidiary to manage the spot-Bitcoin ETPs and related instruments, thereby allowing the primary fund.....

According to a Wednesday Semafor report, Mansour said that Kalshi was launching a “portal for parents” to submit their identification to check whether their children were using the platforms under their names. There have been incidents in which minors have been able to bypass Kalshi’s age requirements — a US-based user must be 18 years old — by using one of their parent’s IDs for verification.

“We are also adding selfies to accounts, where you can basically look at the face of a person, and it can tell you obviously if this person is not the actual parent that’s 50 years old,” said Mansour, according to Semafor.

He points out that markets are currently stuck in a “liquidity squeeze,” driven by rising global debt, geopolitical tensions, and capital outflows, something even the IMF has flagged. The first trigger is the central bank’s participation. With economic stress building, he expects rate cuts and fresh liquidity injections. A new Fed chair is also expected soon, potentially accelerating this change. More liquidity means more capital flowing into risk assets like $XRP.

The second trigger is regulation. The Clarity Act is moving forward, and recent SEC guidance has already opened doors for builders on the $XRP Ledger. This removes a major roadblock that held back development for years.

Tether moves over $70 million in bitcoin to reserve wallet: Arkham

The world’s largest stablecoin issuer received 951 BTC ($70.5 million) from a Bitfinex hot wallet to an address labeled as its bitcoin reserve, according to Arkham Intelligence data.

Tether is the second-largest bitcoin holder among private companies.

The bitcoin was worth $70.5 million at current prices.

Tether's bitcoin reserve now totals 97,141 BTC. The firm is the second-largest holder among private companies, behind Block One, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data. Strategy is the largest publicly-traded holder of BTC.

The move is consistent with Tether's pattern of accumulating bitcoin and moving the asset to its reserve wallet periodically. Last November, Tether moved 961 BTC (then worth $97 million) from Bitfinex to its bitcoin reserve. 

Tether began buying bitcoin in September 2022. Then, in May 2023, the company announced that it would allocate 15% of its net profits each quarter toward bitcoin purchases. Since then, the company has consistently increased its reserves as part of its long-term diversification strategy.

Last June, Tether withdrew 14,000 BTC from its bitcoin reserve wallet and moved it to an address labeled as belonging to Twenty One Capital.

Bitcoin was trading for $73,936 as of 1:02 p.m. ET on Wednesday, according to The Block Price Page.

About 4% of Tether's over $190 billion worth of reserves backing its USDT stablecoin are held in bitcoin, according to the company's website.
