13 Years Of Data Says Bitcoin Price Has Not Bottomed Yet, Analyst Explains The Trend


Bitcoin is now printing green candlesticks on the weekly and daily timeframes, and this raises the question of whether the worst has already passed or maybe the floor is still months away.

An interesting analysis of Bitcoin’s price action over a multi-year time span pushes back against the growing optimism, pointing to a pattern that has held for more than a decade and suggesting that time, not just price, may still be working against a confirmed bottom.

Every Bitcoin Bear Market Has Taken Over A Year To Bottom

Going back to 2013, Bitcoin’s bear market cycles have followed a consistent sequence when it comes to the one metric that matters most, which is time. Each Bitcoin bear cycle differed slightly in severity, but the time requirement it took for it to end was surprisingly consistent.

According to a technical chart noted by a crypto analyst that goes by the name Xremin, the bear market in 2024 stretched to around 426 days before a bottom formed. The 2017 cycle followed with roughly 363 days, while the bear market after 2021’s rally took about 376 days to complete.

The current cycle, however, is only about 190 days into its correction phase. This is, of course, taking Bitcoin’s peak above $126,000 in October 2025 as the starting point of the bear market correction. That places it at just over half the duration seen in previous cycles.

Bitcoin is already down about 43% from that all-time high. However, calling a bottom at this stage, according to the analyst, would mean assuming that Bitcoin has suddenly broken a 13-year pattern without any clear structural change to justify it.

A crypto trader has seen a $370,000 profit in an almost forgotten digital asset in his portfolio during a swift turn of events, according to a post by Lookonchain. The trader, who spent 9.1 $ETH, equivalent to $21,600, in September 2024, to buy 8.02 billion ASTEROID tokens, saw the value of his digital assets decline to almost zero before the sudden surge.

A Long-Term Holder’s Benefit

It took a total of 580 days for the significant turn of events, triggered by Elon Musk’s response to a now-viral post about the meme coin in X. In a swift move, ASTEROID Shiba gained over 45,000% to become one of the most talked-about events in the cryptocurrency circle. The token’s market cap surged past $20 million, causing the trader’s holdings to rise to $392,000 in value, which reflects a $370,000 gain.

The Dying Wish of ASTEROID’s Creator

ASTEROID is a Shiba Inu-based meme coin designed by Live Perrotto, a 15-year-old girl who tragically died of cancer earlier this year. Before her passing, Perrotto wanted to ask Musk if he would make the cryptocurrency a SpaceX mascot.

Musk did not answer the question until this week, when an X user, Glenn Beck, brought the question to light, highlighting Perrotto’s wish and a list of questions she had for Musk. Unfortunately, she was too tired to ask those questions herself when she had the opportunity to speak to the American entrepreneur.

Traders Benefit From Musk’s Influence

Musk responded to Beck’s post with a three-word phrase: “Will answer shortly,” which threw the ASTEROID community into a frenzy, boosting its demand like never before and leading to a massive rally in the meme coin’s price.

On-chain analytics firm Glassnode discussed the latest trends in Bitcoin's Realized Profit in a new post on X. This metric measures the total profit realized by Bitcoin addresses/investors through their transactions.
​According to the chart shared by Glassnode, which tracks the 24-hour Simple Moving Average (SMA) of this indicator over the past few months:
​Profit Spikes: The 24-hour SMA for Realized Profit saw several significant spikes in recent days.
​Timing: These spikes coincided with BTC rebounding from recent lows and breaking back above the $73,000 level.
​Behavior: This suggests that investors utilized the rally as an opportunity to "take profits" off the table.
​During these peaks, profit-taking exceeded $20 million per hour. Due to this selling pressure, BTC has since retreated below $71,000, indicating that profit realization was likely a primary factor in capping the current rally.
​Liquidity Challenges and Sideways Movement
This pattern has recurred several times within the recent trading range. Glassnode noted: "Each approach to the $70,000–$80,000 range faces thin liquidity and profit-taking pressure, which limits the magnitude of the rebound." Given that the latest rally was hindered by selling, it appears the market still lacks sufficient new liquidity to absorb the overhead supply.

Bitcoin’s persistent sideways movement means a significant portion of the user base remains "underwater." As noted in another Glassnode post, a massive number of addresses on the BTC blockchain are currently in a state of loss.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading around $75,024, as the sector analyzes how to protect Satoshi Nakamoto’s 1.1 million $BTC. The volume of options and the bias of long-term “puts” already reflect a demand for protection against extreme systemic events.

Typically, forks like the one in 2017 occurred in a retail market of $45 billion. However, with a current market cap of $1.5 trillion, such an event under the quantum risk in Bitcoin would have much more drastic consequences.

Lim argues that the problem is not just mathematical; it is deeply sociopolitical. The community must decide whether to burn old coins through governance or allow a state actor with quantum power to attempt to claim those inactive assets.

The Satoshi Dilemma and Market Stability

Migrating to post-quantum cryptography is technically conceivable through proposals like BIP 361. Nevertheless, the fate of “Satoshi era” coins remains the big question mark that could tank the price if
