Peter Schiff raises concerns over MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin funding strategy



Peter Schiff, a well-known Bitcoin critic and gold advocate, has raised concerns about MicroStrategy’s ongoing Bitcoin acquisition strategy.

The company has continued to expand its holdings through a mix of debt and equity issuance.

Schiff stated that MicroStrategy’s approach is becoming harder to sustain under current market conditions. He said “the company is shifting toward more expensive capital” while referencing recent financing changes linked to preferred shares.

He added that earlier funding methods, which included issuing shares at higher valuations, are becoming less effective in the present environment.

Shift toward high-yield preferred shares

MicroStrategy has recently relied more on preferred share offerings with higher yield obligations. Schiff noted that the company is now issuing instruments with yields around 11.5 percent.

He said ”these obligations cannot be covered by software earnings alone” when describing the firm’s financial position. The company’s core software business has limited profit contribution compared to its Bitcoin exposure.

Schiff stated that funding future purchases may require additional issuance of preferred shares, discounted equity, or Bitcoin sales. He argued this could increase pressure on shareholders through dilution over time.

Claims of structural risk and market reaction

Schiff described the company’s financing approach as vulnerable if market conditions weaken. He said the structure depends heavily on continued access to capital markets.

Canadian billionaire Frank Giustra also commented on the strategy, calling it ”a giant ponzi that will unravel when the next financial crisis hits” according to remarks cited in reports. He suggested that macroeconomic stress could expose weaknesses in the model.

$RAVE’s 47.97% surge to $27.21 came as derivatives activity intensified, with Open Interest nearing $500M and extreme Funding Rates triggering forced short liquidations.

The rally had clearly outpaced the broader market’s 2.7% gain, reflecting a highly concentrated move driven by positioning.

Notably, over 90% of the token supply had remained concentrated in top wallets, which kept liquidity thin and amplified $RAVE price reactions.

As a result, cascading short liquidations had accelerated upward pressure while traders rushed to cover positions. Funding Rates had also surged to extreme levels, reportedly reaching up to 5,600% APR. This made short positions increasingly expensive to maintain.

This dynamic had created a feedback loop, where rising prices forced further liquidations. However, such conditions often raise concerns about sustainability once forced buying begins to slow.

Outflows tighten supply as sell pressure fades

On-chain data had shown persistent negative Spot Netflows, with the latest recorded outflow at -$840.69K.

This sustained outflow pattern had indicated that traders moved $RAVE away from exchanges into private wallets, reducing the immediately available supply for selling.

As a result, declining exchange balances had eased sell-side pressure and supported the ongoing price expansion.

However, despite this reduction in available supply, the broader move had remained largely influenced by derivatives activity rather than consistent Spot demand.

If inflows begin to return, it could reintroduce sell pressure and weaken the current structure, especially as leveraged positions start to unwind.

The Dogecoin price is still compressed into a narrowing range just below $0.1, but analyst Lars has issued an update to a technical framework he has been tracking for weeks, one that now points to a significant move coming for the meme cryptocurrency. The outcome, however, hinges on one crucial confirmation that has yet to arrive.

Dogecoin TCT Model Begins To Play Out

Bitcoin inflows are still steering the broader market, but Dogecoin has yet to fully follow that inflow momentum. It briefly pushed above $0.10 in the last 24 hours but has since slipped back below, leaving this level as the key pivot that will determine whether the price remains range-bound or transitions into a more decisive move.

That is the basis of a new chart update from crypto analyst Lars on X, where he said he has adjusted the starting point of the current range and is now waiting for what he calls a TCT model 1 distribution confirmation.

Lars’ update is centered on a revised read of where the current trading range should begin, which changes how the compression structure is interpreted. In the charts he shared, Dogecoin is shown moving upward into a pink resistance band that stretches from $0.098 into the low-$0.10 region.

That band sits above a series of rising local lows on the one-hour candlestick chart, and the projected path suggests one more push higher into a third tap before rejection. The 4-hour chart carries the same idea on a broader timeframe, where Lars labels the region as a decisional range to monitor for distribution schematics, adding that no confirmation means no trade.
