On April 18, the cryptocurrency market displayed clear signs of recovery as multiple key indicators turned positive amid improving market sentiment.
The total stablecoin market capitalization rose by 0.88% over the past week, reaching a record $32.14 billion. Notably, USDT reversed its recent contraction trend, with circulation increasing by 1.26% and its market share climbing to 58.06%, signaling renewed liquidity flow into the crypto ecosystem.
At the same time, DeFi activity rebounded strongly, with total value locked (TVL) climbing back near the $100 billion level, currently reported at $99.68 billion. This suggests a gradual return of capital and confidence across decentralized financial protocols.
Meanwhile, decentralized exchange (DEX) activity also expanded, with weekly trading volume increasing by 16.27% to approximately $39.395 billion, reflecting growing on-chain trading demand.
Overall, the simultaneous rise in stablecoin supply, DeFi liquidity, and DEX volume points to a broad-based recovery trend across the crypto market, as investor activity begins to strengthen again.

Myanmar's newly elected President Min Aung Hlaing has approved the release of 4,335 prisoners, according to state broadcaster MRTV, marking the third amnesty issued in the country within six months. The announcement did not identify those receiving pardons by name.Among those to be freed are 179 foreign nationals, who will subsequently be deported. The amnesty also includes the commutation of death sentences to life imprisonment, life sentences reduced to 40 years, and term reductions of one-sixth for other inmates. Such pardons are a longstanding tradition in Myanmar, typically coinciding with Independence Day in January and the Burmese New Year in April.The move comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Myanmar's human rights record. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners reports that over 30,000 individuals have been detained on political grounds since the military seized power in a 2021 coup. Among those still imprisoned is Nobel laureate and former State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who is serving a 27-year sentence on charges her supporters widely consider politically driven. Circle unveils USDC Bridge for native cross-chain stablecoin transfers
Stablecoin issuer Circle has launched $USDC Bridge, enabling users to transfer $USDC natively between at least 17 blockchains without needing to rely on wrapped or synthetic tokens.

On Friday, Circle’s $USDC X account said the bridge allows users to move the $USDC ($USDC) stablecoin in a “predictable, transparent way,” citing a native burn-and-mint transfer mechanism and no bridge complexities.

Gas fees will be handled automatically, fees will be shown upfront, and live status updates will be provided throughout the transfer, Circle added.
The $USDC Bridge builds on Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), which was introduced in April 2023 and facilitates hundreds of millions of stablecoin transfers each day.

Cross-chain bridges seek to make the broader crypto ecosystem interoperable, functioning as a unified network rather than a collection of fragmented, isolated blockchains.

Making bridges as simple and easy to use as possible has been an area of focus for many crypto infrastructure firms.

In the past, bridges have confused users and arguably slowed crypto adoption, especially for beginners struggling to navigate bridge interfaces, trade routes and gas fees.

$USDC Bridge supports over a dozen blockchains

Cointelegraph found that $USDC Bridge supports $USDC transfers between at least 17 Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchains, including Ethereum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, Monad, Optimism, Polygon, Sonic and World Network.

Circle’s CCTP supports a broader number of blockchains, including Solana, Sui and Aptos, which are not natively EVM compatible.

On Wednesday, Circle was hit with a class action for failing to freeze around $230 million worth of $USDC that moved through its CCTP from the Drift Protocol exploit on April 1.

"Probably the same people who created the internet, probably the same people who created GPS, DARPA, NSA, CIA, probably these guys, he said. In his telling, blockchain would serve two strategic purposes: surveillance and covert financing.
