Ram Kumar, co-founder of OpenLedger, shared the prediction in a recent interview with The Block, outlining a future where AI agents handle not only payments but also trading and other financial activities.

Why Agentic Payments Matter

The concept of agentic payments is gaining traction as AI systems become more autonomous and capable of performing tasks that traditionally required human oversight. In the crypto ecosystem, where transactions are programmable and permissionless, AI agents can be designed to pay for services, settle invoices, or even negotiate prices in real time. Kumar believes this use case will outpace others because it solves a practical problem: enabling machines to transact economically with each other.

Unlike traditional payment systems, which often require human authentication and are limited by geographic and regulatory boundaries, crypto-based agentic payments can operate globally, instantly, and with minimal friction. This makes them particularly attractive for decentralized applications, supply chain automation, and machine-to-machine commerce — areas where autonomous agents need to pay for APIs, compute resources, or data access

This development is not merely a statistical curiosity. It signals a shift in market dynamics where traditional tech giants may face competition from companies leveraging the cryptocurrency boom. For investors, the higher trading volume in MSTR suggests greater liquidity and potentially tighter spreads, making it easier to enter or exit positions. However, it also implies higher volatility, as Bitcoin’s price swings directly impact the stock’s performance.

From a broader perspective, this ranking could influence how index funds and ETFs weigh these stocks. If the trend persists, it might prompt rebalancing in some portfolios, further affecting the stock’s liquidity and valuation.

However, available market data do not establish that either factor caused every short-term price movement. That distinction remains important because the token was still 6.5% lower against INR over seven days, despite its latest recovery.
