The cryptocurrency market is experiencing widespread weakness on Monday, with Bitcoin (BTC) sliding under the $63,000 mark amid ongoing risk aversion. Major altcoins, including Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP), are following suit, trending lower toward key support levels at $1,700 and $1.10, respectively.

Risk sentiment in the crypto market remains significantly subdued, weighed down by macroeconomic headwinds, geopolitical uncertainties, and a dearth of clear catalysts. Despite the crypto Fear & Greed Index ticking up to 24 on Monday, from an average of 12 last week, appetite for risk assets has not improved.
Persistent outflows from US-listed Bitcoin spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) underscore waning institutional interest, with $527 million withdrawn last week alone. This marks the eighth consecutive week of net redemptions, reinforcing the ongoing bearish narrative.

Despite the outflows, cumulative inflows remain positive at $51 billion, while net assets under management average $74 billion.

USDP has continued trading very close to its $1 peg, which is exactly what users expect from a regulated stablecoin. More importantly, recent developments around Mastercard's expansion of on-chain settlement using regulated stablecoins, including USDP, suggest the focus is shifting toward real payment infrastructure.
To me, that's the more meaningful story.
Stablecoins don't need large price swings to create value. Their long-term success depends on reliability, regulatory compliance, and adoption in everyday financial systems.
At the moment, community discussion around USDP remains relatively quiet, but I'll be watching whether institutional payment networks continue expanding support, because real-world utility is ultimately what drives sustainable adoption for regulated stablecoins.

Losses of this scale typically occur when a large market order is routed through an onchain liquidity pool with minimal depth and no slippage protection. Slippage refers to the gap between a trade’s expected price and its executed price; most decentralized exchange ( DEX) interfaces let users cap it, automatically canceling any order that would move the market beyond a set percentage. Whether the trader disabled that protection or used a custom route remains unclear.

The setup was especially dangerous because $LIT’s float is unusually tight, given roughly 57% of the circulating supply is staked and another 145 million $LIT sits locked in liquidity programs (while the token’s deepest markets sit on centralized exchanges and on Lighter’s own platform rather than in public pools).

In those conditions, a $2 million market order can exhaust a pool’s inventory within a single block, with arbitrage and maximal extractable value (MEV) bots capturing the difference almost instantly.

Michael Saylor's Strategy dramatically ups pace of bitcoin sales, raising $216 million


Strategy (MSTR) sold 3,588 bitcoin for approximately $216 million last week, reducing its total holdings to 843,775 $BTC, according to a Monday SEC filing.

The company said proceeds from the bitcoin sales will be used to fund distributions on its preferred stock and replenish the portion of its U.S. dollar reserve used for those payments. As of July 5, the USD reserve totaled $2.55 billion.

The latest sales were executed at an average price of roughly $60,000 per bitcoin and are dramatically higher than the 32 bitcoin sold by the company about one month ago, which sent crypto prices plunging. Strategy currently holds 843,775 $BTC acquired for approximately $63.69 billion, or an average purchase price of $75,476 per bitcoin.

Strategy also said it did not sell any shares under its at-the-market equity program during the week ended July, and did not repurchase any shares under its buyback programs. The company added that the full $1.25 billion capacity under its recently announced 

C Monetization Program remains available.
