BlackRock Continues Bitcoin Buying Spree with $612 Million Added Through IBIT ETF

Top Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) issuer BlackRock made major purchases last week worth around $612 million, out of a total net inflow of $786 million across these funds, data from Arkham Intelligence show. The company’s IBIT Bitcoin trust is looking to maintain its status as the world’s largest Bitcoin ETF despite the recent spot market troubles.

Bitcoin is currently trading around $71.5k, showing a 1% price appreciation over the last 24 hours. BlackRock’s recent Bitcoin buying spree has shown sustained institutional interest in the premier cryptocurrency, led by IBIT. Smaller ETFs like Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB contributed modest positive flows, while Grayscale’s GBTC and several others posted neutral or negligible activity. No major outflows offset the buying, marking a broad-based rebound from earlier April volatility.
Despite the inflows, BlackRock IBIT holders sit on an estimated $12 billion in overall unrealized losses. Based on Arkham’s on-chain analytics, their average cost basis is near $89,000 per Bitcoin—well above current spot prices. The ETF now holds approximately 790,808 BTC, valued at roughly $56.5 billion, more than any other institutional player on the face of the Earth, including Michael Saylor’s Strategy with 780,897 Bitcoin worth $55.7 billion. 

However, the double-digit losses aren’t deterring investors from getting into Bitcoin, which has shown extraordinary resilience amid the US-led war on Iran, a conflict showing no signs of an off-ramp despite recent negotiations in Islamabad.

The framework, which cleared a temperature check on April 5, restructures how Aave Labs is funded and operated.
Aave's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) has approved a $25 million stablecoin allocation and 75,000 AAVE tokens for Aave Labs, the core development team behind the protocol, under a framework called "Aave Will Win."

The vote passed on Saturday with nearly 75% in favor. The stablecoin funding will be distributed in installments over 12 months, while the token allocation vests linearly over four years, according to the governance dashboard.

The framework, which cleared a temperature check on April 5, restructures how Aave Labs is funded and operated. Under the new model, revenue from Aave products such as Aave Pro will flow to the DAO treasury rather than being retained by Aave Labs. The team will also limit its focus to Aave-related products, with the goal of accelerating development and reducing operational scope.

The proposal also ratified Aave V4 as the protocol's long-term technical foundation and outlined plans for a new foundation to steward the Aave brand. Other components of the framework tied to specific product launches and milestones will be subject to separate governance votes.

Aave is currently one of the largest DeFi protocols by total value locked, with its TVL exceeding $25 billion according to DefiLlama. The framework represents a significant shift in how the protocol's funding is structured and how its development team is compensated.

Aave founder Stani Kulechov called the proposal the most important in the protocol's history, writing in a post after the vote that holders of AAVE own not just the economic rights of the protocol, but the brand, the users, and the integrations.

Analysts point out that many individuals are struggling with rising living costs and inflation, which limits their ability to invest in risk assets like cryptocurrency. Data also shows that small investors are contributing significantly less to exchange inflows compared to previous years.

Some experts believe that retail investors may have shifted their focus to other markets such as stocks and commodities, which have recently shown strong performance.

In the short term, overall market sentiment remains uncertain and is heavily influenced by macroeconomic factors such as oil prices, inflation, and the strength of the US dollar. However, in the medium to long term, many analysts remain optimistic about the growth of the crypto market as institutional adoption continues to expand.
