If you’re wondering just how much lower bitcoin BTC$62,272.98 is likely to drop, the answer, at least according to one historically accurate contrarian indicator, is not much.

That's the conclusion from an indicator that might seem to signal a bearish shift in sentiment but has tended to presage a more bullish outlook.

The indicator is based on two moving averages: Bitcoin’s 50-week simple moving average (SMA) and the 100-week average. The 50-week average, representing roughly one year, is very close to dropping below the 100-week line. A shorter-term measure is often seen as a more accurate reflection of recent attitudes, so the cross would trigger what analysts call a "bear cross." At current trajectories, it could happen as soon as next week.

While that might sound scary to bulls, it is potentially positive news.

There have been three such bear crosses in bitcoin's history, and each marked a market bottom, signaling the end of a decline and the beginning of a three-year rally. The impending cross, therefore, suggests the bear market has nearly run its course and the bottom is near.

Critics would argue that three past instances aren't enough to draw a definite conclusion. While that is true, the contrarian record of the bear cross is consistent with the reputation of ultra-long-duration moving averages as "lagging" indicators.

Launched by Charles Hoskinson in 2017, Cardano was always seen as the best alternative to Ethereum, which was known for slow speeds, high transaction costs, and high carbon emissions.

Cardano was the exact opposite. It was based on a better approach than Ethereum’s proof-of-work, had low transaction costs, and faster speeds. It was also peer-reviewed and launched by a co-founder of EthereumYears after its launch, Cardano has not lived up to its earlier hype, a move that has seen its market capitalization crash by over $85 billion. While many reasons remain, the main one is that it has become a ghost chain.

A ghost chain is defined as a crypto project that no one uses. In Cardano’s case, it has just a handful of developers, many of whom have abandoned ship over time. A good example of this is in the decentralized finance (DeFi) and the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization industry. Data shows that Cardano has zero market share in RWA, an industry that has over $15 billion in assets today.

A quantum computer could one day break Bitcoin's cryptography. Here's the BTC at risk, the plans to defend it, and the coins already built to resist.

For most of Bitcoin's life, the idea that a quantum computer might one day break it was a worry for the distant future.

That changed in 2026. A March 2026 Google Quantum AI paper cut the estimated resources needed to crack Bitcoin's signatures by roughly 20x, and Caltech researchers now argue a useful machine could arrive by the end of the decade.

The cryptography protecting more than a trillion dollars of digital assets is now on a clock, and the work to replace it has started.

A practical attack still looks years away. Google has set itself a 2029 internal deadline to migrate to post-quantum cryptography. Caltech and partner Oratomic argue a fault-tolerant quantum computer could appear as soon as 2030. Blockstream's Adam Back maintains the real threat is 20–40 years out.

The exposure, however, is enormous: research group Project Eleven estimates that roughly a third of all BTC (almost 7 million coins) sits in addresses whose public keys are already visible on-chain. That includes ~1.7 million in ancient P2PK addresses, of which ~1.1 million is attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto.

Urgency spiked when a researcher recently claimed a bounty for breaking a small elliptic-curve key using real quantum hardware. The key was far smaller than Bitcoin's but a working proof of concept.

Developer Paul Sztorc is responding to the question with a controversial fork. His eCash project, planned for August 2026, would airdrop 1:1 to existing BTC holders while reassigning 500,000 of Satoshi's dormant coins on the new chain to early investors and developers.

CEO Ranveer Arora said users redeemed more than $8.5 million before the wind-down began. Altura also said it had no exposure to MainStreet or its strategies, which makes the episode less about a proven asset link and more about what happens when users lose confidence in nearby yield products simultaneously.

The pressure started after Accountable ended its verification relationship with MainStreet, citing unmet verification standards. MainStreet said its assets remained fully backed, but the loss of a third-party verification layer still changed the question for users watching similar products: can a vault turn positions back into cash fast enough if everyone heads for the exit?

That is the operating risk Altura exposed. Redemptions can look simple from the user side, while exchange withdrawals, private credit repayments, and RWA settlement windows can all run on different clocks.

MainStreet then said the shutdown of a third-party proof-of-reserves dashboard did not reflect asset loss or portfolio deterioration.

Altura's own caveat is just as important. The protocol said it had no exposure to MainStreet or its underlying strategies and described its HyperEVM lending vault, the related $USDT/AVLT market, and Ethereum-vault borrowers as unaffected by the MainStreet event.

Once users saw a verification provider walk away from one yield-bearing stablecoin product, the question moved from whether a neighboring protocol had exposure to whether any similar product could handle everyone asking for cash at once.
