That reading marks a weak positive link rather than the near-lockstep movement of prior weeks; the two assets have largely stopped trading in tandem, though they are not yet moving inversely.

The breakdown matters because $BCH has fallen hard, dropping from above $600 late last year to around $200. If the de-correlation holds while Bitcoin trades sideways or rallies, $BCH could extend its slide on its own, or the relationship could snap back.

For now, the prospect of a short-term $BCH decline remains in place, leaving the asset exposed to further downside.

Franklin Templeton snaps up 250 Digital to chase crypto boom

Franklin Templeton has completed its acquisition of crypto asset manager 250 Digital, adding new cryptocurrency investment strategies to its platform as the firm manages $1.78 trillion in assets worldwide.

According to Franklin Templeton, the deal has resulted in the creation of a new division called Franklin Crypto, which combines the investment team and crypto strategies previously operated by 250 Digital with Franklin Templeton’s existing digital asset capabilities.

Former 250 Digital executives Christopher Perkins and Seth Ginns will lead the unit alongside Franklin Templeton digital assets executive Tony Pecore. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition closes a transaction first announced in April and comes after CoinFund spun out its liquid strategies business into 250 Digital earlier this year as the investment firm concentrated on venture-focused activities.

Franklin Crypto expands institutional investment offerings
Within the newly established division, Franklin Templeton said institutional investors will gain access to actively managed cryptocurrency strategies supported by the former 250 Digital team and the asset manager’s global distribution network.

Alongside the acquisition, Franklin Templeton continues to add crypto-related products across several parts of its business.

Earlier this month, the company integrated its BENJI tokenized money market fund with MoonPay Trade, allowing institutional clients to exchange stablecoins such as USDC and USDT for BENJI through MoonPay’s on-chain trading infrastructure.

Days later, Franklin Templeton filed to launch two exchange-traded funds that would automatically direct stock dividend income into Bitcoin-linked investments, according to previous crypto.news reporting.

Crypto groups back bill allowing miners and stakers to defer taxes until sale

Three of the largest U.S. crypto advocacy organizations have urged Congress to pass legislation that would allow digital asset miners and stakers to defer taxation on newly created tokens until those assets are sold.

In a joint letter sent to the House Ways and Means Committee, the Blockchain Association, Crypto Council for Innovation and The Digital Chamber voiced support for H.R. 9175, the Tax Clarity for Mining and Staking Act, and called on lawmakers to approve the bill as introduced.

The groups described the proposal as a “balanced compromise” that would address years of uncertainty surrounding the taxation of mining and staking rewards while preserving eventual income recognition.

Bill creates optional tax-deferral framework

Representative Mike Carey introduced the legislation. It would establish a new framework for taxing newly minted digital assets received through mining and staking activities.

Under current IRS guidance, miners and stakers generally recognize taxable income when rewards are received. The proposed bill would preserve that treatment as the default option.

However, it would also allow taxpayers an alternative approach that defers income recognition until the assets are disposed of.

If a taxpayer makes that election, newly minted digital assets would not be included in gross income when received. Instead, gains would be recognized when the assets are sold or otherwise disposed of.

Supporters argue that the approach addresses concerns that taxpayers can face tax liabilities before they have converted rewards into cash.

Synthetix Governance Votes to Retire sUSD, Pay Holders in Vested SNXSynthetix governance has moved to retire sUSD, proposing to pay all holders back at face value in vested $SNX under SIP-423, introduced June 12. The stablecoin now trades at roughly $0.25 against its $1.00 target, per CoinGecko and DefiLlama.

Synthetix founder Kain Warwick and core contributor Benjamin Celermajer authored the proposal. Under SIP-423, the sUSD contract would be frozen and deprecated. Each eligible sUSD holder would receive four $SNX tokens per sUSD, at a conversion that values $SNX at $0.25 and sUSD at its intended $1.00 face value. The $SNX tokens carry a one-year lock followed by a one-year linear vest from the freeze date. The claim window opens approximately one year after the freeze.

Four Components
SIP-423 has four parts. First, a holder snapshot: an audit of all sUSD balances on Ethereum and Optimism at a governance-defined cutoff block. Second, the sUSD retirement itself. Third, a restructure of the existing Debt Jubilee under SIP-420, which would close the 420 Pool, remove sUSD staking ratio requirements, and give existing debt participants the choice of a four-year lock with a one-year vest, or an early exit by repaying their remaining debt in full. The fourth component, $SNX staking reform, is deferred to a separate build.

A contingent $USDT path is included: if Synthetix generates more than $10 million in protocol revenue within the two-year lock-up period, 25% of that revenue can be distributed as $USDT to legacy sUSD holders who prefer cash over $SNX. Both the $10 million threshold and the 25% share are adjustable by the Spartan Council via SCCP.
