The cooldown highlights just how much of Solana’s on-chain economy has leaned on memecoin speculation.

Why Pump.fun matters so much to Solana

Pump.fun is the platform that let anyone launch a memecoin on Solana in seconds, and it became a phenomenon. At its peak, it generated an enormous share of Solana’s daily transactions and a meaningful chunk of network fees, as traders churned in and out of thousands of new tokens.

That activity was a double-edged sword. It showcased Solana’s speed and low costs, proving the network could handle massive transaction volume. But it also meant a large part of Solana’s fee revenue and on-chain activity rested on one highly speculative use case. When the memecoin frenzy is hot, Solana’s metrics look incredible. CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju reveals that BTC-pair altcoin trading volume (excluding ETH, XRP, BNB, SOL) has collapsed since 2021 — signalling that the traditional Bitcoin-to-altcoin rotation that powered prior alt seasons has "basically disappeared."

Analyst Ali Charts shows Ethereum is trading at roughly the same price level as March 2021 — meaning a $10,000 ETH investment five years ago would still be worth approximately $10,000 today, despite multiple bull runs and bear markets in between.

The chart highlights $1,060 as a major macro support and value zone for ETH — with a successful defence potentially opening a recovery path toward $2,850 in the short-to-mid term and $4,635 as a longer-term target.

Both analyses converge on the same conclusion: the crypto market is becoming structurally more selective — passive rotation from Bitcoin into altcoins is no longer reliable, and individual project fundamentals now matter more than broad beta exposure.

According to derivatives market data, most bullish call options are concentrated above the $72,000 level, while Bitcoin has struggled to maintain upward momentum throughout June. Deribit continues to dominate the Bitcoin options market, accounting for nearly 79% of total open interest. The exchange currently holds approximately $10.4 billion worth of contracts set to expire, making it the primary battleground for short-term price action.

Analysts note that put options currently enjoy a notable advantage, with estimates suggesting bears could benefit from a net edge ranging between $1 billion and $3.4 billion depending on Bitcoin's closing price at expiry. Despite ongoing institutional interest and continued Bitcoin accumulation by major corporate holders, traders remain cautious. Market participants are closely monitoring whether Bitcoin can stabilize and recover lost ground ahead of the monthly expiry event.
