Strategy's STRC preferred stock hits a record low below par

A preferred stock that Strategy (MSTR) uses to help fund its bitcoin buying has fallen to a record low, constricting one of the company's funding channels.

Strategy's Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, known as STRC, closed at $89 on Wednesday, its lowest level since it launched in July 2025.

That is about 11% below the roughly $100 the stock is designed to hold. A preferred stock is a class of equity that pays a fixed dividend and ranks ahead of common shares in payout order. STRC pays a variable dividend, currently at an effective rate of 12.9%, adjusted monthly to keep its price near $100.

Traders keep track of this discount because of how Strategy uses the stock.

When STRC trades above its $100 par, the company issues new shares through an at-the-market program, selling stock straight into the market, and uses the cash to buy bitcoin. With the stock now below par, Strategy has paused that program, removing one of the levers it relies on to keep accumulating. STRC is typically the most actively traded of its preferred shares.

The slide also lands on a sensitive instrument. STRC's dividends prompted Strategy to sell bitcoin for the first time since it began accumulating bitcoin in 2022. The company disclosed on June 1 that it had sold 32 coins for about $2.5 million in late May to fund STRC distributions, a move that rattled a market used to Chairman Michael Saylor's pledge never to sell.

Last week, Strategy said it had grown a dedicated U.S. dollar reserve to $1.1 billion to cover preferred dividends and debt, while still buying 1,587 bitcoin through separate sales of its common stock.

Strategy holds about 846,842 bitcoin, roughly 4% of the supply that will ever exist, making it the largest corporate holder.

A federal judge in Michigan issued a forceful judgment Wednesday against Polymarket, ruling that sports-related prediction market wagers do not constitute swaps under the CFTC’s jurisdiction.A U.S. District Court judge in the Western District of Michigan denied Polymarket’s request for a preliminary injunction against Michigan regulators, who seek to restrict the prediction market platform from offering sports-related wagers in the state. The state says such wagers constitute illegal sports betting, while Polymarket claims they should be considered swaps under the federal purview of the CFTC.

A new Chainalysis report links rising crypto scam losses to approval phishing operations and increasingly profitable AI-assisted fraud campaigns.



Crypto scam revenue could climb to as much as $17 billion from activity recorded in 2025 as investigators continue identifying illicit addresses linked to fraud networks, according to new findings from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.

In a report published on June 17, Chainalysis said on-chain scams generated at least $14 billion in 2025. It is expected to rise as additional scam-linked wallets are attributed. 

The firm also found that the average payment sent to a scam address increased 253% year-over-year. In contrast, AI-enhanced scams were 4.5 times more profitable than those that did not use AI.

The findings were released as part of Chainalysis’ latest research into approval phishing. This is a tactic commonly used in crypto investment scams to gain access to victims’ wallets.

Bitcoin Bottom Signal Emerges As Scaramucci Eyes Late 2026 Rally

Anthony Scaramucci says weak retail interest and low momentum may be setting up a bottom for Bitcoin (BTC).

Scaramucci made the comments in an interview, where he said he still likes Bitcoin and owns a substantial amount of it.

His argument centers on a market that looks weak because few retail traders appear interested. Search demand has faded, sentiment is depressed, and price action has lacked the momentum that usually brings casual buyers back into crypto.

That weakness is the point of his bullish case.

In thin markets, modest demand can have a larger effect because fewer traders are positioned for a sharp move higher. Scaramucci tied that setup to a stronger rally that could begin in late Q4 2026 or early 2027, while framing it as a cycle view rather than a fixed forecast.

He also pointed to low relative strength index conditions. That needs careful treatment, because Bitcoin’s weekly RSI may be low compared with stronger bull-market phases, but earlier bear markets, including 2018, produced deeper readings.
