The claim, made on the April 15 episode of the Jack Neel Podcast, quickly drew pushback from prominent Bitcoin commentators who said Jiang's argument rests on a basic misunderstanding of how the network works. Was Bitcoin A CIA Project? Jiang, a Beijing-based commentator with 2.3 million YouTube subscribers, framed the theory around what he described as a game-theory process of elimination. He said the standard origin story "makes no sense," asking why someone would spend years or even decades developing blockchain technology only to release it to the world for free and then disappear. "First of all is who would have the technology and the expertise to create something like the blockchain. Second of all, you have to ask who would benefit from this blockchain creation. The third question you want to ask is why would they keep it secret?"From there, Jiang argued that the likely candidates were US intelligence and defense agencies, citing the role government-linked institutions played in building foundational internet infrastructure. "Probably the same people who created the internet, probably the same people who created GPS, DARPA, NSA, CIA, probably these guys, he said. In his telling, blockchain would serve two strategic purposes: surveillance and covert financing.

Market Reaction: How Traditional Markets Will Respond

If the ports in the Strait of Hormuz were actually closed in early 2026, the world would feel the impact. Oil prices would surge to over $100 per barrel, and US gasoline prices would rise by more than 50 cents per gallon.

Shipping companies would have to detour through Africa, extending the voyage by 14 days.  This put immense pressure on the stock market and fueled investor anxiety about the future.

However, oil prices immediately plummeted upon news of the reopening. Brent crude fell by about $10, approaching $89 per barrel. This plunge acted as a green light, triggering a recovery in other markets.

Traditional markets, including the US stock market, repeatedly hit new highs. Investors hoped that the drop in oil prices would reduce inflation and promote faster economic growth.

Cardano Founder Challenges Bitcoin Recovery Claims In BIP-361 Plan
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has criticized the latest Bitcoin (BTC) proposal to protect vulnerable assets from quantum-computing threats. The three-step approach touted as a possible lifeline might face another setback due to Satoshi-era coins.
Hoskinson analyzed developments in the Bitcoin ecosystem, comparing solutions to those of top altcoins. The BIP-361, which seeks to save more than a third of Bitcoin’s supply, approximately worth over $536 billion, has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. 

The plan is expected to make all assets quantum-resistant to prevent losses likely to occur in the next five years. However, experts say freezing coins that don’t migrate to quantum-resistant addresses will not solve all problems.

In the coming months, the three-phase proposal will replace older signature schemes. Initially, inflows to quantum-vulnerable addresses will be blocked before legacy coins are frozen. The final phase is more contentious because it allows recovery of Bitcoins that missed their deadlines.

While it’s acceptable to many, it doesn’t account for coins held before 2013. These assets, about 1.7 million BTC, were created before the key generation of BIP-39.

“34% of all Bitcoin is vulnerable… and here’s your hard fork here. They don’t want to admit it, but this will require a hard fork. Users with frozen quantum vulnerable funds can construct a quantum safe product to recover funds… that’s a lie! And you know it. 1.7 million coins can’t do that. It’s not possible.”

Hoskinson and other critics noted that the plan could recover some of the assets, making it not an entirely bad proposal. He noted that inaction could result in massive losses if quantum computers breach Bitcoin’s cryptography.
