Banking experts from the ABA stated that the key concern is not the effect of banning stablecoin yields, but rather what would happen if such yields are allowed. They warned that offering returns on stablecoins could encourage individuals and businesses to move their money out of traditional bank deposits in search of higher returns.

This shift could particularly impact smaller community banks, as funds may flow toward larger financial institutions or digital assets. As a result, smaller banks could face higher funding costs and reduced ability to lend within local communities.

The debate highlights growing tensions between the traditional banking sector and the crypto industry. While banks warn of instability, crypto leaders argue that stablecoin yields provide fair competition, especially as many banks have historically offered very low interest rates on deposits.
