Bitcoin 'plebs eat first' mining pool Parasite finds its second BTC block



A bitcoin mining pool built to reject both the industrial pay-per-share model and the pure lottery approach has now proved its design works. Twice.

Upstart mining pool Parasite Pool mined block 945,601 on Friday morning, its second block since launching in April 2025 and roughly 48 days after the pool's first block at #938,713 in late February.

The block carried 7,398 transactions and 0.002 $BTC in fees, landing with bitcoin trading at $76,213.

The pool operates on a hybrid model that has no parallel in mainstream mining. A winning miner that solves a block receives 1 $BTC outright, with the remaining 2.125 $BTC plus fees distributed proportionally among all pool participants based on shares submitted since the previous block.

There are no fees to take part in this pool, and payouts are routed through the Lightning Network.

Mining secures bitcoin by having computers compete to solve a cryptographic puzzle every 10 minutes, with the winner earning the right to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain and collecting a reward.

That reward is currently 3.125 $BTC plus whatever transaction fees are bundled in, worth about $238,000 at Friday's price, down from 6.25 $BTC after the April 2024 halving and scheduled to drop again to 1.5625 $BTC in 2028.

The competition is dominated by industrial operators running warehouse-scale facilities of specialized ASIC hardware that pulls enough electricity to rival a small city.

Mining pools exist to smooth the variance of who finds blocks, bundling the hashrate of thousands of participants so the proceeds get split by contribution rather than winner-take-all.

Uniswap Price Dips as Weak Flows and Bearish Trend Persist

During today’s Asian trading session, Uniswap’s price opened at $3.49. This price did not hold for long, as a dip followed, reducing the weekly gains. This movement has raised questions about the potential price targets that will follow next.

Uniswap Price Slips to $3.39

According to CoinMarketCap data at the time of press, Uniswap price traded at $3.39, recording a 1.1% decline over the past 24 hours. Price started near the $3.44 area and slipped briefly before recovering into a stronger upward stretch. That rebound carried $UNI above $3.50 and later pushed it toward the session high near $3.57.

After reaching that peak, the upward move lost strength, and the Uniswap-3.13% price began to ease lower. $UNI then moved through a gradual decline, with repeated lower highs forming across the middle part of the session. The price later settled around the $3.45 zone and traded in a tighter range for several hours.

That stability did not hold into the final stretch. $UNI fell again and moved below the earlier consolidation band, ending near the session’s lower area. The latest decline pulled the price under $3.40 as weakness returned late in the period. Market capitalization stood at $2.16 billion, while 24-hour volume reached $248.72 million. Uniswap price recorded an early rebound, a mid-session fade, and a sharper late pullback.

Crypto’s next major inflection point is coming from artificial intelligence (AI).

That's according to Consensys CEO and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin. He told CoinDesk that autonomous or semi-autonomous agents can transact, coordinate and verify one another on decentralized networks, using crypto rails as a foundation for machine-driven activity.

Lubin, who will be speaking at Consensus Miami 2026 next month, said he is “sympathetic to the idea that blockchain is for machine intelligences,” but does not see humans being displaced. Instead, increasingly intelligent interfaces will abstract away complexity, allowing users to interact with crypto systems through intent rather than manual inputs. In that model, AI becomes the intermediary layer between people and protocols.

That vision comes with risks. If AI infrastructure remains concentrated among large technology firms, “we could be in trouble,” Lubin warned. He argued that decentralized systems and cryptography will be essential in ensuring accountability, enabling machines to “check on one another” in transparent, verifiable environments.

Within that broader shift, products like MetaMask — a Consensys product — are evolving to reflect the change. Lubin said the wallet is being rebuilt as “a new kind of neobank that you own and control,” part of a transition toward what he described as a “personal money operating system.” AI-powered agents could act on behalf of users, managing assets, executing transactions and navigating a growing decentralized economy. “You can walk around with your personal financial system in your pocket,” he said.
