On Monday, the Canton (CC) price soared by around 10% on a daily chart, following a bullish sentiment in the cryptocurrency market and HSBC’s successful pilot of its Tokenized Deposit Service on the network.

At the time of writing this, the Canton price is hovering around $0.1568 with a 10% hike in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. The cryptocurrency currently holds a whopping market capitalization of around $6.02 billion.

Bank of Korea’s new governor signals CBDC and bank token push, skips stablecoins in key address



Bank of Korea Governor Shin Hyun-song used his first address in office to prioritize central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and bank-issued deposit tokens, while leaving out any mention of stablecoins as South Korea weighs new crypto rules.

Shin, who began his four-year term Tuesday, pointed to the bank’s ongoing retail CBDC and deposit-token pilot, Project Hangang, and its role in Project Agorá, a cross-border tokenization effort led by the Bank for International Settlements, according to news outlet Chosun.

He framed digital currency as part of a broader shift in central banking during a period of economic strain and slower domestic growth.

The absence of stablecoins from his remarks stood out. The issue has dominated policy debate in Seoul, with lawmakers considering the Digital Asset Basic Act, which would set rules for stablecoin issuance.

Shin had told lawmakers at his confirmation hearing that stablecoins could coexist with CBDCs and deposit tokens in a "supplementary and competitive" manner.

His speech also outlined a bank-led model where the central bank would issue a CBDC, while commercial banks would provide deposit tokens fully convertible into it. Shin has argued that any stablecoin issuance should begin with regulated banks.

Beyond payments, Shin signaled closer scrutiny of crypto markets and non-bank finance. He said the central bank would expand monitoring of cryptocurrencies and other nontraditional assets, and seek broader access to data to track financial risks.

Shin also pledged steps to modernize currency markets, including 24-hour foreign exchange trading and an offshore won settlement system.

A dozen banks want a euro stablecoin. Fireblocks is making it happen

Cryptocurrency custody firm Fireblocks is handling the issuance and distribution of a euro-denominated stablecoin, backed by a group of twelve European banks, known as the Qivalis consortium.

The euro-backed token, scheduled for release in the second half of 2026, is regulated by the Dutch Central Bank through Amsterdam-based Qivalis and is compliant with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).

The Qivalis consortium is made up of: Banca Sella, BBVA, BNP Paribas, CaixaBank, Danske Bank, DekaBank, DZ BANK, ING, KBC, Raiffeisen Bank International, SEB, and UniCredit.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies with values pegged to an external reference such as the dollar, euro and other fiat currencies. The stablecoin market hit $305 billion in January 2026, but 99% of that volume remains dollar-denominated, with euro-pegged assets representing just $650 million.

The Qivalis consortium aims to challenge this dollar dominance with a regulated, MiCAR-compliant offering, according to a press release on Tuesday. The euro is the second-most traded currency in the world, accounting for a daily average volume of nearly $1.1 trillion.

"Qivalis demonstrates how major financial institutions can work together to plan a compliant euro-backed stablecoins at scale – with production-ready infrastructure that will meet MiCAR requirements, handle institutional volumes, and integrate seamlessly with existing banking systems,” said Michael Shaulov, Co-Founder and CEO of Fireblocks.

Bitcoin eyes $85K in Q2 – Why BTC traders must watch THIS divergence


Halfway through Q2, the market is already pricing in end-of-quarter targets.

From a technical standpoint, Bitcoin’s [$BTC] 10% move so far could just be the early leg of a setup similar to 2025, where Q2 closed with 30% gains. If we get a repeat of that structure, $BTC could still be on track to finish Q2 somewhere in the $85k–$90k range. In that case, the $65k–$70k zone would likely stand out as a local bottom for this cycle.

The key question now is whether on-chain signals support that range as a potential local bottom. At the macro level, $BTC started the week by breaking below the $75k level as uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz picks up again, adding pressure to the “bottom is in” narrative. That pressure is now starting to show up in on-chain metrics as well.

As the chart shows, $BTC hasn’t yet seen full-blown capitulation.

From a long-term holder perspective, only 28.89% are currently sitting in unrealized losses, a setup that has historically triggered panic once that figure moves into the 40-45% range, marking the start of an accumulation phase. Technically speaking, that suggests $BTC may still have room for further downside before a bottom is in. And with macro FUD still around, that structure hasn’t really been invalidated yet.

Moreover, derivatives are starting to look a bit stretched. Coinglass data shows $BTC longs outnumber shorts by about 3:2, meaning the market is still leaning bullish on leverage. Put together, macro FUD, weak technicals, and crowded longs suggest the market is still vulnerable. With LTHs still underwater in parts of the move, capitulation risk isn’t off the table yet. That keeps the $65k–$70k range under pressure.

Naturally, the question arises: Is the $85k–$90k Q2 target for Bitcoin too ambitious?
