Boston Fed president Collins warns Iran conflict energy shocks could keep rates elevated, pressuring crypto
Susan Collins, president of the Boston Federal Reserve, used a May 7 appearance on Bloomberg’s “Big Take” podcast to deliver a message crypto investors probably didn’t want to hear: interest rates aren’t going anywhere.

Collins pointed to energy shocks stemming from the Iran conflict as a major force keeping inflation stubbornly above the Fed’s 2% target. Her prescription was blunt. Hold rates steady. No cuts on the horizon.

The inflation problem that won’t quit

Collins warned that the Iran conflict-induced disruptions could triple inflation estimates compared to just 30 days ago.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell flagged similar inflation risks tied to the Iran conflict in posts on X dated April 21 and May 8, reinforcing the broader Fed narrative that caution, not accommodation, is the order of the day.

What this means for Bitcoin and crypto

Bitcoin climbed 2.6% to $80,139 on May 4 as markets began pricing in stagflation risks from extended supply disruptions.

Analysts are now predicting a possible 25-30% drop in $BTC if inflation continues to escalate. That would put Bitcoin somewhere in the low $56K to $60K range from current levels. During the 2022 tightening cycle, $BTC fell from $69K to below $16K as the Fed marched rates higher.

The US Treasury seized $500 million in crypto assets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in early May as part of intensified sanctions. That seizure contributed to a 60-70% devaluation of Iran’s currency.

Chainlink Breaks Yearly Downtrend as LINK Hits Highest Level Since JanuaryChainlink extended its recovery this week as bullish on-chain data, rising social activity, and technical breakout signals pushed the token to its highest level since January.

$LINK climbed nearly 7% over the past 24 hours and more than 20% over the past month. Trading activity also accelerated sharply, with daily volume jumping roughly 50% as the token reached an intraday high of $10.56.

Crypto analyst Crypto Rand said $LINK was “triggering the bullish reversal” after breaking above its yearly downtrend resistance. The breakout followed months of lower highs and declining momentum across the broader altcoin market.

The ETH/BTC pair is trading near 0.0285, continuing to reflect Ethereum’s structural underperformance relative to Bitcoin. The weekly chart shows a clear downtrend that has been in place since mid-2022, defined by consistent lower highs and lower lows. The recent bounce from the 0.019–0.020 region marked a temporary relief rally, but it failed to break the broader bearish structure.

Price is now consolidating below the 50-week and 100-week moving averages, both of which continue to slope downward and act as dynamic resistance. This positioning reinforces the idea that the recovery lacks strength. The 200-week moving average remains significantly higher, near the 0.045–0.050 zone, highlighting how far the pair is from reclaiming a neutral or bullish structure.

The rejection near the 0.035–0.038 region earlier this year is particularly important. That zone now defines the upper boundary of any medium-term recovery attempt. Since then, price has drifted lower, forming a compression pattern just above local support.

If the 0.027–0.028 level fails, the chart opens the path toward a retest of the cycle lows near 0.020. For Ethereum to reverse this trend, it would need to reclaim the 0.035 level with conviction — something the current structure does not yet support.

Crypto Security Fears Rise As Chaos Labs Reveals Attempted Advanced Wallet Attack

Several crypto firms are switching oracle providers after Chaos Labs disclosed it was targeted in a sophisticated hacking attempt last weekend — one that authorities believe may have been carried out by a nation-state actor.

Borrowing platform Tydro announced it is migrating to Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure following the incident. Solv Protocol flagged similar plans, citing recent industry events as the reason for moving its cross-chain setup away from LayerZero.

Kelp DAO, still recovering from an April exploit, is also shifting its restaking token rsETH to Chainlink. The moves signal a broader loss of confidence in alternatives, even as Chaos Labs insists its core systems were never touched.

Chaos Labs founder Omer Goldberg said the attack was contained to operational wallets the company uses for routine on-chain activity. The oracle network itself — which supplies price and data feeds to blockchain applications — was not breached at any point.
“Chaos Oracles run in a fully isolated environment with nodes distributed globally, protected by layered security and cryptographic controls,” Goldberg said in a post on X.

Cardano – Is Grayscale’s latest revision evidence of a repricing in progress?

We’re almost halfway through Q2, and the cycle is already exhibiting some clear divergences.

The main standout is Cardano [ADA]. ADA is up over 13% so far this quarter, even outperforming Ethereum [ETH], pushing the ADA/ETH ratio up 4% – Its strongest quarterly performance since the Q1 2025 cycle. For a chain often labeled a “ghost chain,” Cardano’s price action is starting to look more convincing.

Notably, across major exchanges, ADA positioning is leaning clearly bullish, with traders steadily shifting into long exposure in line with the broader technical setup. Still, given ADA’s history of sharp reversals and volatile swings, the question now is –

Is this the early phase of a sustained breakout, or just another liquidity-driven move that fades into a bull trap once momentum cools off?

Notably, this is where Grayscale’s recent report starts to carry more weight. 

As the chart above shows, Grayscale Investments’ Smart Contract Fund has increased its ADA allocation from 17.96% to 18.33%. At the same time, Ethereum exposure was reduced by 1.06%, while Cardano exposure was increased by 0.37%. For context, the Grayscale Investments Smart Contract Fund is a crypto fund that holds a mix of smart contract tokens, giving investors exposure to this sector in a single basket.

From a technical standpoint, this kind of increase in ADA allocation basically means the fund is slightly rotating more weight into Cardano within its smart contract portfolio. Against this backdrop, the question naturally arises – Is the growing bullish positioning around ADA more of a “strategic” setup, rather than just random market noise?
