Why are trading volumes on the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve up today?


The ceasefire shifted market conditions after weeks of pressure from U.S.–Iran tensions that drained liquidity and weakened price structure. As risk faded, capital began returning, first targeting the most liquid assets.

Bitcoin rebounded toward $72,800 with over $33 billion in daily volume. Ethereum moved back into the $2,200–$2,250 range with volume above $14 billion, signaling renewed participation.

This move matters because it reflects how capital re-enters. Instead of spreading across the market, it concentrates on core assets where liquidity and depth remain strongest.

At the same time, this concentration lifts the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve, as $BTC and $ETH drive its valuation higher.

However, the rebound remained selective. Strong flows into major assets suggested recovery was forming, though broader expansion still required sustained conviction.

Why is the crypto reserve rising now?

As capital returned into reserve-aligned assets, the nature of volume becomes the next signal shaping market direction.

Bitcoin [$BTC] traded near $72,800, lifting the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, which held about 328,372 $BTC, as valuation recovered with price.

The price rebound gained strength through sustained inflows of capital.

According to Farside data, Spot Bitcoin ETFs record $240.4 million in a single day, pushing weekly totals to $816.9 million and cumulative flows above $56.7 billion, signaling continued institutional participation.

Meanwhile, Derivatives were aligned with Spot demand. Open Interest [OI] rose steadily, while taker buy pressure remained dominant.

This persistence showed demand was sustained, reinforcing a rebuilding phase rather than a short-term recovery.

Reportedly, Bitwise Asset Management has filed a second amendment with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), marking a significant milestone on the road to launching its planned spot Hyperliquid exchange-traded fund.

Eric Balchunas, a senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg, noted in Friday’s X post that Bitwise has changed the ticker for its Hyperliquid ETF to $BHYP and set a management fee of 0.67%, or 67 basis points.

Balchunas claims that these information being filed usually indicate that the product is about to be launched. He went on to say that the corporation was probably attempting to cash in while the iron was hot, since HYPE had gone up 200 percent in the last year.

This application comes as other asset managers, including as Grayscale and 21Shares, are also attempting to get in on the action by releasing their own exchange-traded funds (ETFs) linked to the crypto perpetual futures protocol and blockchain. Bitwise filed its Hyperliquid ETF with the SEC in September before the other two. A month later, 21Shares filed theirs, and Grayscale did the same at the end of March.

Investors will be able to track the current price of Hyperliquid via Bitwise’s ETF, which would trade on the NYSE Arca stock market if it is approved. Although neither Grayscale nor 21Shares have made it clear that their funds would aim to earn extra returns via HYPE staking, Bitwise said so in the firm’s first December filing revision.

Last week started with the cumulative Spot Bitcoin [BTC] ETF recording $471.4 million in inflows, in which BlackRock’s IBIT recorded the highest inflow worth $181.9 million, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC with $147.3 million.

Ark Invest’s ARKB also saw inflows worth $118.8 million, whereas Grayscale recorded inflows worth $17.6 million. Meanwhile, others recorded minimal to zero flows.

However, on the 7th of April, Bitcoin ETFs saw outflows worth $159.1 million, in which Fidelity’s FBTC recorded the maximum outflows worth $47.8 million. Following the trail was Grayscale’s GBTC, which recorded $41.9 million in outflows, whereas BlackRock’s IBIT saw $17.1 million flowing out.

Even on the 8th of April, when the ceasefire was announced, the outflows continued, with the cumulative BTC ETF recording $93.9 million in outflows. On this day, only Fidelity’s FBTC, Ark Invest’s ARKB, and Grayscale’s GBTC recorded outflows worth $79.1 million, $74.7 million, and $11.1 million, respectively. 

All other ETFs recorded inflows, with IBIT leading at $40.4 million. Interestingly, things changed on the 9th and 10th of April, wherein $358.1 million and $240.2 million, respectively, flowed into the BTC ETFs. On both these days, IBIT received maximum inflows worth $269.3 million and $137.6 million, respectively. Whereas Grayscale’s GBTC recorded zero flows on both days.

The criticism comes days after World Liberty Financial deposited 5 billion $WLFI tokens as collateral on the DeFi lending platform Dolomite and borrowed about $75 million in stablecoins.

The deposit still dominates Dolomite, accounting for a majority of the protocol's roughly $794 million in total supply liquidity.



At its peak earlier this week, the USD1 pool hit 100% utilization, temporarily locking ordinary stablecoin depositors out of their funds. As of Sunday, the pool had eased to roughly 82% utilization, with about $158 million borrowed against $193 million supplied.

Dolomite co-founder Corey Caplan also serves as an advisor to World Liberty Financial, a dual role that onchain analysts have described as functionally that of CTO. To accommodate $WLFI's deposit, Dolomite raised its $WLFI supply cap to 5.1 billion tokens.
