Coinbase is cutting approximately 14% of its workforce, with CEO Brian Armstrong citing converging pressures from a subdued crypto market and rapid AI-driven productivity gains.

In an internal email sent Tuesday, Armstrong described the move as a deliberate step to make the company leaner and more efficient. He highlighted two main factors: ongoing market cyclicality that requires a stronger cost structure ahead of the next growth phase, and AI’s transformative impact on operations.

Engineers are now completing work in days that once took teams weeks, while non-technical staff can ship production code, and many processes are being automated.

The restructuring goes beyond headcount reduction. 

Coinbase will flatten its organization to a maximum of five layers below the CEO and COO, eliminate pure management roles in favor of player-coaches, and shift toward smaller AI-native teams capable of managing fleets of agents. Some experiments will include one-person pods combining engineering, design, and product responsibilities.

Armstrong expressed gratitude to departing employees and outlined a support package that includes at least 16 weeks of base pay for U.S. staff (plus two weeks per year of service), continued equity vesting, and six months of COBRA coverage. International employees will receive comparable local support.

Meanwhile, market participants viewed the announcement through a bearish lens. Several observers called the layoffs a classic bear market signal, consistent with cost-cutting across the industry as trading volumes in native crypto assets have declined and activity has shifted toward traditional markets.

Crypto asset manager 21Shares launched the Strategy Yield ETN (STRC) on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday, marking its first U.K. product offering exposure to Strategy's Bitcoin-backed preferred shares.

STRC provides exchange-traded access to Stretch, a variable rate Series A perpetual preferred stock issued by top Bitcoin treasury firm, Strategy Inc. The preferred shares offer investors yield exposure backed by the software company's massive Bitcoin holdings.

Bitcoin Core quietly patched high-severity memory bug months before public disclosure, but many nodes may still run affected software

Bitcoin Core disclosed a high-severity use-after-free bug in its script validation engine that could have let miners remotely crash and execute code on other nodes, marking the first memory safety vulnerability in the project’s history.

A patch shipped in Bitcoin Core v29.0 in April 2025, though one widely cited estimate suggests roughly 43% of nodes may still run vulnerable pre-v29 software.

Bitcoin Core quietly patched its first-ever memory safety bug months before publicly disclosing the vulnerability on Tuesday, while a large share of nodes may still be running affected software.

The high-severity flaw could have allowed miners to remotely crash and potentially execute code on other user's nodes using specially crafted invalid blocks.

The vulnerability, labeled CVE-2024-52911, affected all Bitcoin Core versions from 0.14.0 through 28.x, according to the notice. A miner willing to spend real proof-of-work resources on specially crafted invalid blocks could have exploited it to crash victim nodes.

Furthermore, because the flaw is a use-after-free memory error, remote code execution was possible during the resulting abnormal memory state, though Bitcoin Core said block data constraints made that outcome unlikely.

However, the attack vector also carried a built-in deterrent.

Any miner attempting it would have needed to burn real hashpower on invalid blocks with no reward to recover. A guaranteed loss that likely kept the bug dormant in the wild.

Kalshi has released three tools that function together. The first option is the Parent Portal. It allows parents to submit their own ID to the marketplace, even if they do not want to trade.

This allows them to determine whether someone has used their identity to open an account without their knowledge.

The fundamental concept is to place more responsibility on the account holder to demonstrate that the account is real, rather than leaving everything to the platform.The second tool employs artificial intelligence to verify selfies. When someone registers, they must include a photo of themselves.

The algorithm then matches this selfie to the photograph on the ID they gave.

If the faces do not match, the account is flagged immediately before being accepted.

The final feature is known as Family Accounts, or the Inner Circle. It enables groups of friends and relatives to track one another’s trading activities on the site.

Mansour described it as a tool for good, rather than a means of controlling excessive conduct. It allows those close to a user to identify whether someone is overspending or betting substantially.
