The U.S Moves $177K in Bitcoin, But the Real Story Is Bigger

The U.S. government just moved over 2 BTC to a Coinbase Prime wallet, but the transfer itself isn’t the real story. It’s what it reveals about how seized crypto is now being handled. 

The funds, flagged by Arkham Intelligence, are linked to Glenn Olivio, who was indicted in 2025 in an alleged steroid distribution and money laundering case, with the Bitcoin likely seized during that investigation and moved in two transactions worth around $177,000. 

At first glance, this looks routine. Governments often move seized assets for custody or consolidation. But zoom out, and a pattern starts forming.

Similar movements have been seen recently with funds tied to cases involving Ross Ulbricht and other financial crimes. These repeated transfers suggest the government is actively organizing and managing its crypto holdings rather than leaving them idle.

From Selling Bitcoin to Stockpiling It

Here’s where things get interesting. This shift comes after the U.S. introduced its strategic bitcoin reserve following an executive order under Donald Trump.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later confirmed that the government has stopped selling seized bitcoin and is now holding onto it instead.

That changes how these transfers should be viewed. Instead of preparing assets for liquidation, the government may now be repositioning them for long-term storage within its reserve.

The Real Angle, Crypto as a State Asset

The U.S. already holds around 328,000 BTC, worth over $22 billion. Moves like this suggest a quiet transition from treating crypto as confiscated property to managing it as a strategic asset.

In the short term, Dogecoin is trading in a consolidation range between $0.12 and $0.18. This phase indicates the market is gaining momentum for the next move. If bullish sentiment strengthens, DOGE could break through the $0.20 resistance level.

A successful breakout could push the price toward the $0.25-$0.30 range, especially if trading volume and social media activity increase.

What could follow $CFG’s price breakout?

On the 4-hour chart, $CFG broke out of an ascending triangle consolidation with the price spiking to $0.26. Shortly, sellers countered the move, and the altcoin has since dropped to $0.2267.

Usually, prices tend to enter healthy corrections after such breakouts. That suggested that Centrifuge prices may start dipping to around the 0.5 Fibonacci Retracement level or optimal reversal zones between the 0.618 and 0.786 Fib levels.

Breaking above $0.26 would put $0.35 in sight, as there are close to no resistance levels above on the bigger timeframes.

The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) indicated the price may have reached its high of the day. It dropped to the red zone with a reading of more than 514K $CFG being sold from a peak net buying volume of 4.86 million tokens.

However, the Trend Strength Index (TSI) showed the direction bias was still intact even though the price was pulling back. With a TSI reading of 0.83, it meant bull trend strength was in the 80th percentile.

Tracking Centrifuge’s RWA capital

On the network activity side, Centrifuge hit a new monthly peak for asset senders at 24 and a new high for holders at 23. This indicated growth in RWA issuance, though the pace was slow.

RWA’s capital deployed on Centrifuge this month rose by 45.3%, reaching $1.7 billion from $1.17 billion. $CFG’s monthly token trading volume also jumped by 154%, recorded at $1 billion.

CoreWeave, a public Bitcoin miner that ditched Bitcoin for an AI venture, is winning big. According to Blocksbridge Consulting, CoreWeave’s successful $8.5 billion GPU-backed loan has confirmed the AI boom or ‘ComputeFi’ and, by extension, the death of ‘MinerFi.’

The research examined the 2021 Bitcoin mining boom, which collapsed hard as BTC’s price fell while hashrate (computation power and number of miners) surged.

At the end of the 2021 cycle, the resale value of old ASICs (rigs used to mine BTC) fell and the BTC price crash exacerbated the situation.

In contrast, the newer mining hardware, which includes Nvidia’s GPU (general processing units) could easily be repurposed for other things. Especially as AI’s demands for data processing and power balloon.

As a result, most miners with the latest hardware during the current cycle have either partially or wholly pivoted to AI with ease.

Others like MARA have been forced to liquidate their BTC holdings to fund these pivots. However, players such as CoreWeave have opted for GPU-backed loans, which use the computing racks as collateral.

In fact, CoreWeave’s $8.5 billion is unprecedented because it is the largest loan facility ever to be made using the computing racks as collateral in the sector.

And the ‘ComputeFi’ upside doesn’t stop at expanded funding capacity either.

Will AI shift deepen among Bitcoin miners?
According to the research firm, ‘ComputeFi’ has solved the speculative nature of the ‘minerFi’ problem.

In the latest cycle, BTC and crypto have gone mainstream. In fact, most banks and asset managers now allow investors to borrow against their crypto holdings. However, the overall profitability has strained the sustainability of BTC mining.

Apart from the 2024 halving of block rewards, BTC’s pullback has dragged daily miner revenue from over $50M in 2025 to below $40M in 2026.

Recent Price Action

Right now XRP is stuck in a bit of a tight spot, bouncing back and forth between a rough support level of $1.30 and a resistance of $1.50. It did briefly pop above $1.39 back in April, but a quick pullback has left it still hanging strong above the critical $1.32-$1.34 zone.

Historically, April has actually been a pretty good month for XRP with averaging some nice gains in recent years – sometimes up to 24 or 25%. But for 2026, things have been pretty quiet so far, and all eyes are on some particular catalysts.

Analyst: Bitcoin Could See a Big Catch-Up Rally Once Geopolitical Tensions Ease

As much as 80% of Bitcoin's price action next month could depend on whether the conflict in the Middle East shows signs of concluding.

Bitcoin climbed back above $72,000 on Friday as a two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire lifted crypto markets, even though the truce remains contested.

However, on-chain data firm Santiment says the bounce is “a small drop in the bucket” but argues that the asset has clear upside once the geopolitical picture resolves.

According to Santiment, BTC is down roughly 20% year-to-date, compared to a 2% loss for the S&P 500 and a 9% gain for gold in the same period, leaving the cryptocurrency as the clear laggard.

However, analyst Brian Quinlivan sees that performance gap as a reason for patience rather than despair.

“Regression to the mean would indicate that Bitcoin has a higher upside compared to the other two sectors,” he said. “If the war starts to look like it’s concluding, watch for the S&P 500 and Bitcoin to really start to thrive.”

The two-week ceasefire announced on April 8 pushed BTC past $72,000, with additional reports of Iran requiring payment for passage through the Strait of Hormuz in crypto, taking it closer to $73,000. However, as doubts started emerging as to whether it would hold, with airstrikes going on and Israel’s position still unclear, the asset retreated toward $71,000.
Quinlivan put a rough number on just how much the situation in the Middle East has dominated the narrative, saying:

“I would estimate that 80% of Bitcoin next month is going to depend on whether this war shows signs of concluding soon.”

He added that such an outcome would allow key stakeholders to start accumulating with confidence again.
