Bitcoin slips below $80,000: Why the 'Trump rally' is hitting a wall of profit-takingBitcoin slipped back below $80,000 on Wednesday after a brief breakout attempt, as onchain data suggested the rally was already running into profit-taking pressure.

CryptoQuant said bitcoin’s 37% rebound from April lows still looks more like a bear-market rally than a confirmed trend reversal, with realized profits hitting their highest level since December and short-term holders increasingly exiting at a gain.

Bitcoin’s rally has pushed traders back into profit, with holders cashing out at the fastest pace since December, as recent buyers increasingly sell into strength, they wrote.

But the rebound still looks more like a relief rally than a true bull-market breakout, since profits remain well below levels seen in past sustained uptrends while unrealized gains are already high enough to tempt more selling, according to CryptoQuant. Traders are also sitting on an 18% unrealized profit margin, the highest since June 2025, a level where profit-taking has historically accelerated.

Singapore-based market maker Enflux offered a different read, focusing less on holder behavior and more on the macro catalyst that drove bitcoin’s initial move higher.

Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the US, has been experiencing an outage for approximately five hours.

Coinbase stated in a press release that some users experienced “performance degradation.” This disruption was attributed to an overheating incident at an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in Northern Virginia.

Coinbase stated, “We will begin the process of reactivating trading on our markets shortly.”

The stock exchange stated that they were aware of the problem and were working on a solution.

“We understand that due to the AWS outage, our customers are currently experiencing performance degradation and may be unable to trade on the Exchange. Our team is investigating this issue and will provide you with an update. Your funds are safe.”

We will begin the process of reactivating trading in our markets shortly. Before reactivating trading, all markets will be placed in “Cancel Only” mode.

Chaos Labs says oracles secure after attempted ‘nation-state’ wallet attackCrypto risk management and infrastructure provider Chaos Labs said its Chaos Oracle Network, which provides data feeds to blockchain applications, was not compromised after a hacking attempt over the weekend by a potential “nation-state.”

Chaos Labs founder Omer Goldberg said in an X post Thursday that the company identified an attack over the weekend, possibly by a “nation state,” and immediately moved to a full lockdown.

“The surface area was strictly contained to operational wallets we use for routine onchain operations. At no point was the Chaos Oracle Network breached or compromised.”

“Chaos Oracles run in a fully isolated environment with nodes distributed globally, protected by layered security and cryptographic controls,” Goldberg said.

“The authorities and cyber professionals working with us have characterized the activity as consistent with nation-state attacks, he said. “The investigation continues, and we will share more as it allows.”

State-backed hacker groups, particularly those from North Korea, have been seen as a persistent threat to the crypto space.North Korea-affiliated actors have been accused of stealing at least $578 million across several major incidents in April and have been linked to many of the industry's largest hacks. North Korea recently rejected claims linking it to global cybercrime, calling the allegations unfounded.

Goldberg said that Chaos Labs has rotated all keys since the attempted attack and said there hasn’t been any further suspicious activity.

Polygon just upgraded its network, reducing average block times to 1.75 seconds — the first major speed improvement since launch. That may sound technical, but the impact is simple:
Transactions now move faster.
According to Polygon engineers, the upgrade increases the network’s theoretical capacity to around 3,260 transactions per second, helping reduce congestion for stablecoin payments, DeFi activity, and on-chain transfers.
And in the payments industry, speed matters.
But the bigger story is what Polygon is building around that speed.
The network is increasingly positioning itself as infrastructure for institutional stablecoin payments.
This week, Polygon introduced a new privacy-focused wallet system using zero-knowledge proofs through its integration with Hinkal. The system hides transaction details from public view while still allowing compliance checks through Know Your Transaction (KYT) screening.
That reveals something important about where crypto is heading:
The industry is trying to solve two major problems at the same time:
• Users want privacy
• Regulators want transparency and compliance
Polygon is attempting to offer both.
And major companies are starting to pay attention.
Visa has already added Polygon to its stablecoin settlement pilot program. Meta is using Polygon for some USDC creator payouts. Stripe is handling payment processing and tax support for those transactions.
In other words, Polygon is slowly evolving from “just another blockchain” into payment infrastructure for large-scale real-world finance.
But there’s still a harsh reality.
Despite all the upgrades and partnerships, Polygon’s POL token remains down more than 50% over the past year.

Industry sources who reviewed the draft described the overall response as positive, though unresolved bracketed sections remain a concern. The draft circulation comes as lawmakers, crypto advocates, and industry executives push for a federal digital asset framework. Terrett said:

“The Senate Banking Committee is preparing to notice a markup for the CLARITY Act as soon as tomorrow and has circulated draft legislative text to select industry members ahead of a potential Thursday vote.”

After passing the House in July 2025, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act has faced months of Senate Banking Committee deadlock. Pressure increased this week after Patrick Witt, executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, said the White House wants passage by July 4. The target adds urgency before election-year politics slow legislative action.
