KuCoin Australia's 'Evolution' Showcases Regulatory Focus, Mastercard Launch Crypto trading platform KuCoin is betting big on Australia, ramping up investment and unveiling new products designed to help consumers use digital assets for their everyday purchases.
According to the firm's Australian Managing Director, James Pinch, KuCoin's moves in the market are an "evolution," building on its already established presence in the region with his appointment and the launch of a new office in Sydney's Central Business District.

Ethereum Devs Clash Over Rising Data Costs
The Ethereum network is approaching a critical infrastructure bottleneck, sparking intense debate among developers over how to handle the blockchain's rapidly growing "state size."

At the center of the controversy is a proposed network upgrade, EIP-8037, which aims to curb data bloat by significantly increasing the upfront gas costs for developers deploying new smart contracts and storage slots.

There seems to be an economic flaw in Ethereum's current design: developers pay a one-time fee to write data to the blockchain, but network nodes are forced to pay the ongoing costs to store that data forever.

The state storage problem

Ethereum's "state" is the snapshot of all current account balances, smart contract code, and data stored on the network. Unlike transaction history, which can be archived, the state must be actively maintained and readily accessible by nodes to process new transactions.

According to network researcher @marilyn100x, the current model is unsustainable. If the network operates at a 100 million gas limit, Ethereum adds approximately 553 MiB of new permanent data daily, equating to roughly 197 GiB of new state data per year.

Currently, the Ethereum state sits at approximately 390 GiB. At the current growth rate, the network is projected to hit a critical "danger zone" of 650 GiB in less than 1.6 years. If the state becomes too large, it dramatically increases the hardware requirements to run a node, which threatens to centralize the network by pricing out average participants.

To prevent the network from hitting this limit, developers have proposed EIP-8037. Instead of time-weighted rent, the proposal acts as a deterrent by significantly raising the upfront gas costs required to create new contracts, accounts, and storage slots. Developers are incentivized to write more efficient code and avoid treating Ethereum's base layer as a cheap database.

Analysts debate whether Bitcoin is in a ‘sell in May’ bear market Crypto analysts are divided over whether markets will see a major Bitcoin sell-off in May, a pattern that has emerged in the last two bear markets during US mid-term election years.

In May 2018, Bitcoin crashed from nearly $10,000 to about $7,000 by the end of the month. It happened again in May 2022, when Bitcoin fell nearly 30% from about $40,000 to $28,500 before falling further in June to $20,000.
With 2026 also a bear market year coinciding with a US mid-term election, there are concerns it could happen again.
“The most brutal pattern in Bitcoin history. Nobody wants to hear this. But the pattern is perfect. Mid-term election years. Bitcoin dumps. Every time,” crypto analyst Merlijn Enkelaar said on Sunday.

Enkelaar said a similar move could see Bitcoin prices collapse to $33,000 despite the advancement of key legislation, the CLARITY Act, positive crypto sentiment from the Trump administration and potential trade deals between the US and China.
Joao Wedson, founder and CEO of Alphractal, also said Sunday that there would be a higher probability of a new capitulation phase if Bitcoin remains under $78,000, with bears “showing signs of strength.”

Tokenized Stock Market Surges to $1.5B as Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain Battle for Lead

The fight to become the main home for tokenized stocks is starting to look a lot more interesting, and right now it is shaping up as a three-chain race. RWA expert Zeus tweeted, “The tokenized stock race is currently a 3-chain battle. Ethereum, Solana & $BNB Chain are all aggressively positioning themselves to become the home of onchain equities.”

That comment fits neatly with what Token Terminal’s latest chart is showing. The market cap for tokenized stocks across chains has surged to about $1.5 billion, up an incredible 56,615.2%. What makes the chart even more striking is how sudden the move looks. For a long stretch, the sector barely moved. Then, almost out of nowhere, it started climbing fast, and the rise became especially steep near the end of the timeline.

Ethereum currently leads the pack with a market cap of $614.3 million. Solana is next with $442.6 million, and $BNB Chain is right behind it at $432.2 million. They are so close that the order could flip pretty quickly if one of them catches a stronger wave. Even so, Ethereum is still comfortably out front for now.

The numbers matter because they show that tokenized stocks are no longer just a niche experiment or a talking point for crypto insiders. There is clearly real interest building around the idea of bringing equities onchain, and that interest is now being spread across some of the biggest blockchain ecosystems in the industry.

A Three-Way Battle

Ethereum’s lead makes sense. It remains the most established smart contract network and the one many institutions still view as the most credible place for serious financial activity. When new tokenized financial products emerge, Ethereum often gets the first look because of its history, its developer base, and the amount of infrastructure already built around it.
