The Federal Reserve’s Spring 2026 Financial Stability Report has reshuffled its risk hierarchy, and the new order tells a story. Geopolitical risks now sit at the top of the list, climbing from second place in the Fall 2025 survey to the most cited threat to US financial stability.

The promotion wasn’t exactly a surprise. The Fed’s survey positioned artificial intelligence alongside geopolitical risk and inflation as a defining challenge for financial stability. The CFA Institute has classified AI-driven threats as persistent vulnerabilities, with particular emphasis on increasing cyber risks.

BlackRock has echoed these concerns, emphasizing the growing dangers posed by AI in cybersecurity and economic inequality.

Nobel laureate Simon Johnson has warned about what he calls the threat to “jobs with dignity,” arguing that AI fundamentally reshapes which kinds of labor have economic value. The Fed’s own Beige Book confirmed AI-driven efficiency improvements across multiple sectors, while noting implications for employment dynamics.

Bitcoin profit-taking may 'accelerate' as price hits 3-month high: Analyst


Despite the short-term price recovery, Bitcoin remains in a bear market, according to CryptoQuant analyst Julio Moreno.Bitcoin profit-taking could accelerate as BTC prices climb to three-month highs and investors begin locking in gains, according to Julio Moreno, head of research at onchain analytics platform CryptoQuant.

Holders realized 14,600 BTC in profits on Monday, or $1.1 billion, following Bitcoin's April rally, Moreno said, adding that this is the “highest” single day of profit-taking since Dec. 10, when BTC was trading above $90,000
The Short-Term Holder Spent Output Profit Ratio (STH-SOPR), an onchain metric that gauges profit-taking by wallets that have held BTC for less than 155 days, also rose above 1, a level that indicates “clear profit-taking territory,” he added. He said:

“Bitcoin holders are realizing more than 20,000 BTC in net profits on a 30-day rolling basis, the first positive reading since December 22, 2025, following a period of heavy net losses in February and March that reached as deep as 398,000 BTC.”
Spikes in realized profit levels during crypto bear markets typically signal local price tops or sideways price action, Moreno said, adding that despite the rise in realized profits, demand has not caught up, and BTC remains in a bear market.

Tensions between the banking sector and the cryptocurrency industry over stablecoins are growing in the US.

Trade associations representing different sectors of the American banking industry have sent a letter to the Senate Banking Committee calling for significant changes to the reward and yield mechanisms included in the Tillis-Alsobrooks stablecoin agreement.

According to shared information, banking institutions argued that the current draft language would “allow for circumvention” of stablecoin reward restrictions. Banks stated that the proposed regulation would incentivize customers to increase their stablecoin balances instead of bank deposits.

The letter contained the following statements:

“The proposed language includes exceptions that would allow circumvention of the intended ban, encouraging customers to hold and grow stablecoin balances at the expense of deposits.”

The banking sector’s letter is considered one of the strongest warnings yet against the cryptocurrency market structure bill. Industry representatives warned senators that the current consensus on stablecoin reward systems could accelerate deposit outflows from the financial system.

Meanwhile, in Washington, all eyes are on the Senate Banking Committee. It is reported that the committee could begin considering the bill concerning the structure of the cryptocurrency market as early as next week.

The recent stablecoin compromise between Republican Senator Thom Tillis and Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks aims to limit stablecoin issuers from offering users direct interest-like returns. However, the banking lobby believes that certain exceptions in the current text could render this ban ineffective.
