Boston Federal Reserve President Susan Collins went on Bloomberg’s ‘Big Take’ podcast on May 7 and delivered a message crypto traders probably didn’t want to hear: interest rates aren’t coming down anytime soon.

Collins pointed to the ongoing Iran conflict as a primary driver of energy shocks that are keeping inflation persistently above the Fed’s 2% target. Her view is that the Federal Open Market Committee should recalibrate its communications to dampen market expectations of imminent rate cuts.

The US labor market just delivered its second consecutive month of solid job gains, with nonfarm payrolls growing by 115,000 positions in April 2026. That nearly doubled what economists had penciled in. The unemployment rate held firm at 4.3%.

A year ago, the monthly jobs number was basically a rounding error. The 2025 average came in at a paltry 10,000 jobs per month. So 115,000 feels less like a recovery and more like the labor market finally remembering how to walk after a long nap.

The private sector did the heavy lifting, contributing 123,000 of those jobs. That means federal employment actually shrank.

Healthcare led the charge, adding 37,300 positions. Transportation and warehousing followed with 30,000 new roles. Retail trade rounded out the top three at 21,800.

Year-to-date, the economy is averaging 76,000 jobs per month in 2026. Compare that to the anemic 10,000 monthly average throughout 2025, and the trajectory looks encouraging.

Average hourly earnings grew 3.6% year-over-year. The problem is that the expected inflation rate sits around 4%. Workers are getting raises that don’t actually keep up with the cost of living.

Part-time employment for economic reasons, meaning people who want full-time work but can only find part-time gigs, has been ticking higher. That’s the kind of data point that doesn’t show up in the unemployment rate but tells you something about the quality of jobs being created versus the quantity.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report dropped and crypto barely flinched. Equity markets, however, remain in a constructive mood. The stronger-than-expected payroll number feeds into a risk-on narrative: the economy isn’t collapsing, but it’s not running hot enough to force the Federal Reserve into aggressive tightening.

In February, $XRP tried to break out after the early-month calamity but was stopped at $1.65. A month later, the bears stepped up even before that when the asset challenged $1.60. During the following couple of months, the cross-border token’s attempts were exhausted long before those levels, at $1.50 in April and $1.47 in May.

On the positive side, all of these rejections were met by fresh buying power at around $1.30, which became $XRP’s most important support since then. Now, another buying signal has flashed, and the question is whether this time will finally be any different for the token or if it will be more of the same.

$XRP Buy Signal

Ali Martinez, who frequently touches upon the TD Sequential metric, noted that the indicator has flashed a buy signal on $XRP’s 4-hour chart. The metric is used to determine the exhaustion of price moves in either direction for the underlying asset. Although it doesn’t have a 100% success rate, it’s generally very reliable when it comes to $XRP in particular, as the analyst noted.

The latest example was on May 6, when it flashed a sell signal after $XRP tapped $1.46 for the first time in several weeks. The subsequent rejection pushed the token south by over 5% in less than 48 hours.



Martinez said about today’s buy signal flash that it suggests the “local exhaustion is over, and $XRP is ready to rebound.” He speculated that the first move would be toward the same resistance at $1.45 and posted a secondary, more bullish target at $1.80 “once we clear the overhead supply.”

Major Move Ahead?

This is not the first time Martinez has brought out the $1.80 target for $XRP, as he did so last week when he noted that the asset has been sitting in a tight range for too long and could be primed for a major move ahead. Brad Garlinghouse called a federal judge’s determination that $XRP is not a security one of the most consequential moments in crypto regulation, arguing it opens the door for institutional adoption and clearer rules across the industry.

What the judge actually ruled

The SEC sued Ripple in December 2020, alleging the company sold $XRP as an unregistered security, raising $1.3 billion through those sales.

In July 2023, Judge Analisa Torres delivered a split decision. She found that Ripple’s institutional sales of $XRP did qualify as securities transactions. But programmatic sales of $XRP on public exchanges were not securities.

The SEC initially signaled it would appeal the ruling. Then, in March 2025, the agency dropped the appeal entirely. $XRP surged 10% to $2.55 on that news.

Garlinghouse’s take

During an interview on Fox Business, Garlinghouse called the ruling “brilliant” and declared the saga complete.

“I’m finally able to announce that this case is over. It’s over.”

Garlinghouse highlighted $XRP’s growing institutional use case, suggesting that banks and financial institutions are more willing to adopt assets that come with legal clarity.

The SEC did not immediately comment following the announcement. The court docket also remained unupdated after Garlinghouse’s public statements.

Why this matters beyond $XRP

One risk to monitor: the same ruling that freed programmatic $XRP sales also confirmed that institutional sales were securities violations. Ripple paid a $125M penalty as part of the resolution.

The asset was trading at $1.3849 as of late February 2026 according to MEXC data, well off the $2.55 high it hit when the SEC dropped its appeal.

World Liberty Financial [$WLFI] has been at the center of scrutiny since Justin Sun filed a lawsuit against them for freezing his wallet. Sun is among the largest early investors of $WLFI.

Such activities, in addition to the team’s consistent selling, resulted in the token dropping to an all-time low (ATL) on the charts.

However, the passing of a recent proposal sparked an instant price reversal this week. Hence, the question – Will the altcoin sustain its newly-found uptrend?

What does the proposal entail?

According to World Liberty Financial, its biggest governance proposal in history passed with 99.9% of the votes being YES.

To be specific, 11,537 wallets participated to restructure and unlock over 62 billion $WLFI tokens. The votes reached 11.2 billion, surpassing the required quorum of 1 billion by elevenfold.

The proposal included moving 17 billion $WLFI tokens from early investors into long-term vesting. Furthermore, more than 45 billion $WLFI allocated to the team and founders would be restructured.

Put simply, the proposal addressed supply tokenomics. About 10% of tokens allocated to insiders would be burned permanently – A step to begin reducing circulating supply. This would create scarcity, which can drive price if demand is present.

The remaining supply would be vested for years with a cliff unlock coming after 2 years. Consequently, gradual unlocks would follow.
