Cardano Founder Challenges Bitcoin Recovery Claims In BIP-361 Plan
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has criticized the latest Bitcoin (BTC) proposal to protect vulnerable assets from quantum-computing threats. The three-step approach touted as a possible lifeline might face another setback due to Satoshi-era coins.
Hoskinson analyzed developments in the Bitcoin ecosystem, comparing solutions to those of top altcoins. The BIP-361, which seeks to save more than a third of Bitcoin’s supply, approximately worth over $536 billion, has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. 

The plan is expected to make all assets quantum-resistant to prevent losses likely to occur in the next five years. However, experts say freezing coins that don’t migrate to quantum-resistant addresses will not solve all problems.

In the coming months, the three-phase proposal will replace older signature schemes. Initially, inflows to quantum-vulnerable addresses will be blocked before legacy coins are frozen. The final phase is more contentious because it allows recovery of Bitcoins that missed their deadlines.

While it’s acceptable to many, it doesn’t account for coins held before 2013. These assets, about 1.7 million BTC, were created before the key generation of BIP-39.

“34% of all Bitcoin is vulnerable… and here’s your hard fork here. They don’t want to admit it, but this will require a hard fork. Users with frozen quantum vulnerable funds can construct a quantum safe product to recover funds… that’s a lie! And you know it. 1.7 million coins can’t do that. It’s not possible.”

Hoskinson and other critics noted that the plan could recover some of the assets, making it not an entirely bad proposal. He noted that inaction could result in massive losses if quantum computers breach Bitcoin’s cryptography.

Renowned Analyst Benjamin Cowen Issued a Warning Despite Bitcoin’s Rise

In his latest video, Benjamin Cowen, a leading analyst in the cryptocurrency market, evaluated Bitcoin’s current price movements using historical data and “seasonality.”

Analyzing Bitcoin’s return to the $77,000 level, Cowen warned investors about potential weakness in the coming weeks.

Cowen noted that Bitcoin’s current trajectory bears striking similarities to the “US midterm election years” cycles of 2018 and 2022. According to the analyst, Bitcoin hit a low of $60,000 in February, followed by a higher low in late March and early April.

However, Cowen argued that this was not an absolute bullish signal, but rather that “time-based capitulation” within a bear market was more significant than price-based decline.

One of the most striking points in the analysis was the risks projected for late April and early May. Cowen predicts that Bitcoin could reach a local peak at the end of April, similar to 2018, and then decline again at the beginning of May after sweeping that high.

The Fed meeting on April 29th stands out as one of the biggest risk factors for the markets. Bitcoin is currently facing resistance at the 100-day moving average. If this level is breached, the next major resistance point is expected to be the 200-day moving average.

Cowen stated that tracking USDT and USDC dominance is critical for understanding market direction, and noted that stablecoin dominance finds support at the 100-day moving average.

Clarity Act News: Patrick Witt Reveals White House Stepped In to Save Crypto Bill


Crypto Analyst Tony Edward spoke with Patrick Witt, Executive Director, President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets at the Solana Policy Institute summit, where Witt gave a grounded update on the Clarity Act and what’s actually coming next behind the scenes.

Witt made it clear that the stablecoin issue almost blocked the bill completely. That’s when the White House stepped in to mediate between banks and crypto companies, trying to find language both sides could live with.

“We had to step in there and serve as a mediator… bringing the banks and crypto companies together… and ultimately get it to a place where we felt like it was ready to hand back over to the Senate… not to say either side is thrilled about it.”

He explained that this wasn’t about making everyone happy; it was about getting enough agreement to move forward. Banks wanted stricter rules if crypto firms act like banks, while crypto players didn’t want extra layers added at all. The final version sits somewhere in between.

The Clarity Act Timeline Is Tight

Witt didn’t sugarcoat the timeline either.

“Just working backwards from the August recess… you realize you have to take action now to get this out of the banking committee.”

From here, the bill still has to clear the Senate, go through reconciliation, and pass the House before reaching Donald Trump. There’s still a process, and it’s not a short one.

Once the Clarity Act is done, the focus shifts quickly.
