Open Interest in futures markets fell by $54 million, indicating significant capital withdrawal as traders anticipate further losses. The RSI has dropped to nearly oversold territory at 32, while the price remains below key moving averages. If the downtrend continues, LIT may fall toward $0.85. A reversal would require holding $0.90 and reclaiming the $1.00 level.

LIT, the native token of Peter Thiel-backed Lighter perpetual DEX, surged 40% in April, driven by an aggressive buyback program and a key Telegram integration. The project has repurchased and locked 10 million LIT (4% of the 250 million circulating supply) and is buying back tokens at a rate of about 1% per month. Meanwhile, Telegram’s integration of Lighter for leveraged trading attracted 40,000 new users. Despite this, open interest saw only a modest increase, though daily revenue rose from $35K to over $100K. Additional price support comes from the LLP (Lighter Liquidity Pool), where providers must stake LIT worth 10% of their deposited USDC, locking significant token supply. However, challenges persist. Trading volume has declined amidst a sluggish market, with total volume at $1.68 trillion, significantly lower than leading competitor Hyperliquid's $4.37 trillion. While Lighter focuses on perpetual contracts, RWA, and Pre-IPO markets, Hyperliquid has expanded into prediction markets and boasts a U.S. spot ETF, attracting institutional investment and influencer endorsements like from Arthur Hayes. In contrast, LIT currently lacks similar high-profile backing. With 75% of LIT's total 1 billion supply still locked (team and investor tokens begin a 3-year linear unlock in December 2026), there is no immediate unlock selling pressure. The token's future performance hinges on sustaining trading volume growth, successful product iteration, and executing its transparent buyback strategy against a dominant competitor.

Decentralized perpetual futures exchange Lighter has announced major steps to strengthen its tokenomics. In a statement on X, founder Vladimir Novakovskiy revealed that over 16 million LIT tokens have been repurchased to date, and a regular quarterly token burn program has been officially launched. Novakovskiy stated these initiatives are part of a long-term strategy to reduce the circulating supply of LIT tokens and support ecosystem sustainability. He also emphasized that Lighter's token distribution structure has remained unchanged since its Token Generation Event (TGE), noting that most existing investors chose to hold their positions, which he cited as a key indicator of trust in the project. Furthermore, Novakovskiy commented on anticipated U.S. regulatory changes, specifically mentioning the CLARITY Act currently before Congress. He believes that once such rules for digital assets are finalized by the SEC, blockchain-based fundraising and stock tokenization could rapidly gain traction.
