Bitcoin ($BTC) surged sharply after the U.S. Treasury Department announced expanded liquidity support for the long-term bond market, triggering one of the largest short liquidations since October 2020. According to Michael Nagye, founder of The DeFi Report, the timing of Bitcoin's jump followed the Treasury's announcement of enhanced long-term bond buyback operations starting in September. Nagye views this as a second "moderate quantitative easing" measure implemented recently to alleviate pressure on long-term Treasury yields. He noted that gold reacted first to the macroeconomic shift, followed by Bitcoin. However, a significant portion of Bitcoin's move was attributed to short liquidations and market positioning changes rather than new, sustained spot demand. As Bitcoin approaches the $68,000-$69,000 range, key technical levels are back in focus: $68,500 (short-term holder cost basis), $68,800 (21-week moving average), and $69,100 (200-day moving average). The current price action is seen as crucial in determining whether the uptrend will continue. While the rally is notable given the Treasury's actions, Nagye emphasized it remains largely liquidation-driven at this stage. The key question now is whether sustainable market demand will emerge to support further gains. If Bitcoin can break through and convert the $68,500-$69,100 resistance zone into support, it could pave the way for a new bullish rally.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw their largest single-day net inflow since early May, attracting $517.2 million on Wednesday. This brought August's total net inflows to $1.47 billion. The funds have taken in roughly $1 billion since Monday, marking their best weekly inflow since mid-January. The inflows coincided with a crypto market rally, fueled by a US Treasury decision to expand buybacks of longer-term government debt and renewed regulatory focus after former President Trump urged Congress to advance the CLARITY Act. Analysts interpreted the Treasury's move as a currency-related event, with Bitcoin trading in line with gold and silver rather than typical risk assets. At the time of reporting, Bitcoin traded near $72,000, up 11% in 24 hours, while Ether rose 19% to approximately $2,286. Spot Ether ETFs also recorded $189.2 million in net inflows on Wednesday, contributing to a weekly total of about $291.5 million.

HumidiFi, a prominent decentralized exchange on Solana, has temporarily suspended trading on its platform following a security breach within its network. The company stated that the incident was limited to its own internal funds and did not affect client or third-party assets. According to its official announcement on X, the team is still investigating the attack and has not disclosed specific details or labeled it as a hack. Trading remains paused. Data from DefiLlama shows HumidiFi processed around $213.79 million in trades over the past 24 hours and had a 30-day trading volume of approximately $2.468 billion. Despite the incident, the exchange's native token, WET, saw its 24-hour trading volume surge nearly 192% to about $5.49 million, although its price fell 8.66% to $0.07173. This price is roughly 78% below its all-time high from December 10, 2025. This security breach follows a recent failed token sale on the Jupiter platform, which was canceled after an attacker used automated wallets to purchase nearly all available tokens. HumidiFi canceled the sale, vowing a new, fairer token distribution for legitimate participants. The report notes an increasing frequency of security investigations in the digital asset sector for Q2 2026, with a record number of incidents causing significant financial damage.

U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs saw a net inflow of $2.6 billion for the week, marking the highest since October 2025, according to SoSoValue. Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1.9 billion while Ethereum funds drew $697.2 million, both setting 2026 records. This reversed a $392 million outflow from the prior week. Bitcoin ETF trading volume surged over 219% to $22.1 billion, and assets under management (AUM) grew 25.4% to $96.1 billion. Inflows were concentrated around a rally on August 19-20, with BlackRock's IBIT fund alone accounting for $503 million of the $606.3 million inflow on Thursday. Ethereum ETFs saw their strongest week since October 2025, with trading volume jumping 259.4% to $6.9 billion and AUM rising 35.9% to $14.3 billion. Despite the strong week, Bitcoin ETFs still show a net outflow of approximately $2.9 billion year-to-date for 2026, and Ethereum funds are down about $191.8 million. The recent inflows reduced the combined year-to-date deficit for both categories from $5.7 billion to $3.1 billion.

The most prominent Chinese crypto miner Jiang Zhuo'er, founder of BTC.TOP, has revised his earlier bearish outlook, now expressing 90% confidence that the bear market is over. He predicts Ethereum (ETH) may outperform Bitcoin (BTC) in the current cycle. Jiang detailed his recent trading activity, repurchasing ETH between $1,738 and $1,931 and setting a stop-loss at $2,100, then selling 50% of his spot ETH at $2,525 with a stop-loss at $2,550. He plans to allocate 20-30% of his remaining capital to buy ETH, using the rest if Bitcoin drops to the $67,000-$72,000 range. Otherwise, he intends to purchase ETH at market price by the end of October. Jiang notes the market's strong upward trend makes precise peak prediction difficult.
