Resumo

NVIDIA announced a $1 billion strategic investment in South Korean internet giant Naver, acquiring approximately 4.5% of its shares. The investment aims to bolster Naver's AI data center infrastructure, which will expand and utilize NVIDIA's hardware. This move gains significance for the crypto industry due to Naver's ongoing acquisition of Dunamu, the parent company of Upbit—South Korea's leading cryptocurrency exchange. The acquisition, valued at around $9.9 billion, is pending regulatory approvals, primarily from the Fair Trade Commission concerning potential antitrust issues. If finalized, Upbit would become a part of Naver's financial ecosystem. Therefore, while NVIDIA is not directly investing in Upbit, the transaction creates a potential indirect link between the chipmaker and the exchange, contingent upon the successful completion of Naver's acquisition of Dunamu.

On July 24th Beijing time, Nvidia officially announced a $10 billion investment in the South Korean internet giant Naver, to further bolster South Korea's AI infrastructure construction. According to subsequent disclosures by Naver, Nvidia will acquire approximately 4.5% of Naver's shares through this strategic investment, becoming one of Naver's significant shareholders.

This investment is not merely a financial stake acquisition but involves further deep strategic cooperation centered on AI data centers. Bloomberg added in its report that the funds invested by Nvidia will be used to support an AI data center project currently under development by Naver. This data center is being jointly developed by Naver and the American private equity firm Brookfield, will fully adopt Nvidia's AI computing hardware in the future, and is expected to expand to more than double its original scale.

For Nvidia, this investment in Naver is a crucial step in its continuous expansion surrounding AI computing power, data centers, and the supply chain system. For Naver, this partnership will further enhance its position in South Korea's AI infrastructure competition.

Naver’s Other Identity: The "Quasi" Parent Company of Upbit

For the cryptocurrency industry, the additional attention garnered by Nvidia's equity acquisition in Naver stems not from Naver's own AI infrastructure layout, but because the company is currently, through its financial subsidiary Naver Financial, advancing an important transaction involving South Korea's cryptocurrency industry — the acquisition of Upbit's parent company, Dunamu.

Naver Financial, established in 2017, is primarily responsible for operating payment services like Naver Pay.

As early as 2021, Naver showed strong interest in the cryptocurrency field, attempting to acquire the mainstream South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb. Although the attempt ultimately failed, this move revealed its ambitions in digital assets.

Despite the initial setback, Naver did not stop exploring the cryptocurrency space.

In 2025, Naver Financial began in-depth cooperation with Dunamu and gradually extended its business reach into digital asset payments — the two sides discussed cooperation around KRW stablecoin payment services, with Naver Pay responsible for payment scenarios and Dunamu providing digital asset-related technical support.

On September 25th of the same year, Naver Financial officially announced that it would jointly promote a share swap transaction with Dunamu to achieve a full acquisition of the latter. According to the plan disclosed by both parties, Naver Financial will issue new shares to exchange for the shares held by Dunamu's shareholders. Upon completion of the transaction, Dunamu will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Naver Financial, and Upbit will enter the Naver ecosystem.

As one of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, Upbit was launched by Dunamu in 2017 and has long held a significant position in the South Korean digital asset trading market. If successfully completed, this transaction would signify a deep integration between a traditional South Korean internet giant and a cryptocurrency trading platform.

According to information previously disclosed by South Korean media, the valuation of the share swap transaction between Naver Financial and Dunamu is approximately $9.9 billion. Upon completion, it is expected to create one of South Korea's largest fintech companies.

However, due to some unforeseen reasons, this transaction has not yet been completed.

Acquisition Intent Agreed, But Stalled at Antitrust Regulation

According to the initial plan between Naver Financial and Dunamu, both parties hoped to complete the integration within 2026. However, due to involvement in multiple regulatory areas such as South Korean finance, digital assets, and large-scale corporate combinations, the approval progress of the transaction has not been smooth.

The biggest obstacle comes from the antitrust review by the South Korean Fair Trade Commission (FTC). As Naver is a major player in South Korea's internet sector, and Upbit has long held a leading position in South Korea's cryptocurrency trading market, the combined entity could form a vast business system covering payments, financial services, and digital asset trading. Therefore, regulatory authorities need to assess whether this would impact market competition.

In addition, this transaction involves several other regulatory approval steps, including approvals related to the change of Naver Financial's largest shareholder, and relevant filings by Dunamu under South Korea's "Act on Reporting and Use of Specific Financial Transaction Information."

In July 2026, Naver Financial and Dunamu announced another delay in the transaction completion date, pushing the originally planned September 2026 share swap completion deadline to December 31st of this year.

However, both parties have not abandoned the deal. Naver Financial stated that it will continue to actively cooperate with regulatory review procedures and promote the smooth completion of the transaction; Dunamu also emphasized that the cooperation aims to enhance the competitiveness of South Korean companies in the digital finance field.

Although Naver and Dunamu reached an acquisition agreement earlier, whether this transaction valued at approximately $9.9 billion will ultimately be finalized still depends on the final regulatory approvals. This will also determine whether Upbit officially becomes part of Naver's financial portfolio.

So, Is Nvidia Really About to Become a Shareholder of Upbit?

Is Nvidia really going to become a shareholder of Upbit? Looking strictly at the current acquisition progress between Naver and Dunamu, the answer is still no.

Nvidia will acquire approximately 4.5% of Naver's shares, not directly hold any equity in Upbit or its parent company, Dunamu. If the full acquisition transaction between Naver and Dunamu proceeds smoothly in the future, as Upbit is integrated into Naver's financial system, the exchange could indeed establish an indirect equity-level connection with Nvidia.

However, for now, this remains only a possible future relationship. A more accurate description of the current situation is that a potential, yet incomplete, capital connection path has emerged between Upbit, South Korea's Top 1 cryptocurrency exchange, and Nvidia, the world's Top 1 market cap behemoth.

In Conversation with Ray Dalio: We Are Currently in an AI Bubble, with 1% of My Portfolio in Bitcoin

Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, warns in an interview that the current AI boom shows classic bubble characteristics, which could lead to significant economic downturns as seen in past cycles like 1929 or 2000. He explains that speculative enthusiasm, fueled by debt and overvaluation, often precedes a crash when rising rates or taxation force asset sales, causing widespread losses and recession. Dalio also outlines his "Big Cycle" theory, describing an approximate 80-year pattern where widening wealth gaps, massive government deficits, and shifting geopolitical power (like China's rise) create internal conflict and global instability. He emphasizes that we are in a late-cycle, transitional phase where traditional powers like the US and UK face decline. For personal wealth protection, Dalio advises diversification beyond cash into assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, and particularly gold, which he prefers over Bitcoin. While he holds about 1% of his portfolio in Bitcoin as a non-printable hard asset, he views gold as more secure from technological or governmental threats. Regarding AI's impact, Dalio believes it will disproportionately benefit capital owners, worsening inequality by replacing both physical and cognitive labor. He suggests that human intuition and emotional intelligence, combined with AI, will be key for future workers. On taxation, Dalio argues that wealth taxes are impractical and risk triggering asset sell-offs, reducing productive investment. He points to the UK as a cautionary example of debt, low productivity, and political strife. Geopolitically, Dalio foresees a more regionalized world, with the US showing weakness in prolonged conflicts like with Iran, akin to past imperial declines. The ideal outcome, he suggests, is coexisting powerful blocs (e.g., Americas, China-Asia Pacific) without major war.

Daily 7.2 Trillion KRW: Foreign Capital's Record Net Buying on Friday! Wall Street Says Headwinds for Korean Stock Fund Flows Have Subsided

South Korean stock market sees a dramatic shift in fund flows. On July 31, foreign investors made a record net purchase of approximately KRW 7.2 trillion in KOSPI stocks, marking a fundamental reversal from the persistent large-scale net outflows seen in previous months. This contributed to a significant narrowing of foreign net selling in July to KRW 9.8 trillion, down sharply from KRW 48.4 trillion in June and KRW 44.5 trillion in May. Simultaneously, domestic institutional pressure eased. South Korean pension funds and asset managers turned to a net buying position in July, purchasing KRW 1.0 trillion worth of KOSPI shares, contrasting with net sales in May and June. Market volatility is expected to be dampened by new financial regulations. Effective July 31, the Financial Services Commission tightened access for retail investors to single-stock leveraged ETFs by raising the minimum cash deposit requirement. Trading volumes for these products subsequently dropped to about 50% of their monthly average. Citigroup Research maintains its year-end KOSPI target of 10,000 points. The firm cites several supportive factors: the substantial easing of headwinds from capital outflows, a robust fundamental outlook for the semiconductor sector, historically low market valuations, strong economic fundamentals, and the potential for policy support from financial authorities if needed.

Thanks to Dice Rolls, Bitcoin Keys Are Stored Offline, But Not Everyone Will Do It

The article discusses using dice rolls to generate secure Bitcoin wallet seeds, providing entropy independent of potentially flawed hardware random number generators. It explains that each fair dice roll offers about 2.585 bits of entropy, with around 50 rolls needed for a standard 12-word seed phrase and 99+ recommended for higher security. This method gained attention after a vulnerability was revealed in some Coldcard hardware wallets, where a faulty firmware RNG (dating back to 2021) compromised generated keys. The analysis notes that while a dice-generated main seed was safe from this specific flaw, other Coldcard functions (like creating paper wallets, backup keys, or passwords) could still be vulnerable if they used the defective RNG. The piece argues that while dice-based entropy is technically robust, the manual process is error-prone, tedious, and unrealistic for most new users, who might make mistakes in recording or inputting rolls. It concludes that while manual entropy generation should remain an option for advanced users, the long-term goal is to develop reliable, user-friendly hardware and software that securely generates randomness without requiring specialized knowledge. Coldcard users are advised to check their firmware version and replace any secondary secrets (like paper wallet keys) created with vulnerable devices, while also considering multi-signature setups with devices from different manufacturers for added security.
