Data shows that the median 'Parity Gap' for stablecoin payments in Q2 was -3.2 basis points, widening to -5.9 basis points in June, meaning the final transaction rate for users was better than the interbank mid-rate. Meanwhile, the average cost of sending a $10,000 cross-border payment remained around $27, basically stable for five consecutive months. The report points out that as the cost of stablecoin cross-border payments becomes more homogeneous, payment routing has become the largest cost optimization space for enterprises. If enterprises rely on a single payment service provider for a long time instead of dynamically selecting the best quote, they will pay an average of approximately $2,330 more for every $1 million transferred. Borderless calls this the 'Routing Tax.' In addition, price differences between different stablecoins across different payment channels remain significant. For example, in the Peru payment corridor, USDC has maintained a price advantage of about 99 basis points over USDT; while in the Brazilian Real payment channel, the lowest-quoting service provider changed 34 times in 88 days, averaging a change every 2.6 days. In terms of regional performance, payment costs in Latin America and Asia remained stable, while Africa showed the most volatility. Notably, the spread in the Malawi payment channel once widened to 1,975 basis points, and the spread for the Ghana USDC payment channel increased by 596% quarter-on-quarter. Borderless stated that stablecoin cross-border payments have entered a competition-driven phase, and in the future, the intelligent routing capabilities of payment service providers will become a key competitive advantage for enterprises to reduce costs.
