The encoding rate of qLDPC codes is about 30%, allowing for the protection of the same number of logical quantum bits with far fewer physical quantum bits, compressing the total demand by about two orders of magnitude from the million level. The paper provides multiple architectural schemes (assuming a stabilizer measurement period of 1 millisecond): 1. About 10,000 physical quantum bits can run Shor's algorithm to break 256-bit elliptic curve encryption (the encryption scheme used by Bitcoin and Ethereum), with the runtime depending on parallelism. 2. In a configuration of about 26,000 physical quantum bits, the runtime for breaking elliptic curve encryption is about 10 days. 3. In a configuration of about 102,000 physical quantum bits, the runtime for breaking RSA-2048 is about 97 days. The trade-off is speed: the clock frequency of neutral atoms is far lower than that of superconducting solutions, requiring days rather than minutes to break encryption. However, this does not mean the threat is smaller. Google's superconducting solution (500,000 quantum bits, 9 minutes) is suitable for hijacking real-time transactions being broadcast; Oratomic's neutral atom solution (12,000-26,000 quantum bits, several days) is suitable for attacking dormant wallets with exposed public keys, as this type of attack does not require a race against time. Google's white paper estimates that about 6.9 million bitcoins fall into this category. The hardware gap is narrowing.
