Meta fined 30.8 billion won for illegally collecting personal information in South Korea

On September 14, Reuters reported that Meta was fined 30.8 billion won (about 154 million yuan) for allegedly collecting personal information without users' consent and using it to place personalized ads online in South Korea, and that global IT giant Google was also fined 69.2 billion won (about 346 million yuan) for the same issue. This is the first time that a penalty has been handed down in Korea for the collection and use of user information by an online advertising platform.
