This is about 32% higher than the average of the previous five weeks, which was around 244.921 billion won, marking a significantly elevated pressure week. Compared to the relatively calm week of June 15 to June 19, last week's figure was about five times larger. Looking at daily data, the forced liquidation pressure in the Korean stock market last week surged notably on July 9, with actual reverse transactions reaching approximately 142.197 billion won, accounting for 10.2% of the unpaid amount, the highest for the week. On July 10, the amount remained around 81.613 billion won, representing 5.7%. The three preceding trading days recorded 39.698 billion won, 31.741 billion won, and 28.846 billion won, respectively. The term 'reverse transaction' refers to the mandatory sale of stocks by securities firms when investors fail to replenish funds after buying stocks on margin or with unsettled funds. This data does not equate to the 'number of liquidated positions' but reflects the scale of passive clearing of leveraged accounts during market downturns. Analysts believe that when stock indices experience consecutive corrections and individual stock declines widen, margin accounts and short-term trading accounts are more likely to trigger margin calls or forced selling pressures. If market sentiment continues to weaken, reverse transactions may further amplify intraday volatility, creating a chain reaction of 'decline, forced liquidation, and further decline.'
