Espresso: Global Confirmation Layer for L2s

For the first time in weeks, U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs are set to record continuous weekly inflows, which marks a rebound for crypto ETFs. On March 2, Bitcoin ETFs pulled $458 million in net inflows, which is one of the strongest single-day inflows this quarter so far, and none of the 12 listed Bitcoin ETFs posted outflows.

According to SoSoValue reports, the largest inflow was $263.19 million from iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), followed by Fidelity’s FBTC with $94.80 million in inflows, then Grayscale’s BTC added $18.36 million, VanEck’s HODL posted $19.54 million, and Bitwise’s BITB received $36.40 million.

While Invesco’s BTCO and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB brought in $6.20 million and $5.73 million, respectively, and Franklin Templeton’s EZBC brought in $13.98 million. Finally, total net assets currently oversee about $88.34 billion in total. As Bitcoin ETFs started the week with the largest inflows, positioning the funds to record their second consecutive week of positive net inflows.

After experiencing some turbulence over the weekend, Bitcoin saw a significant recovery. As growing tensions between the United States and Iran and more general geopolitical concerns in the Middle East upset international markets, Bitcoin fell to around $63,000, at the time of writing the article, Bitcoin was trading near $68,000

Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETFs See Inflows
Meanwhile, Ethereum ETFs recorded $38.69 million in inflows on March 2, led by iShares Ethereum Trust(ETHA) with $26.51 million in inflows, while Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust(ETH) and Grayscale Ethereum Trust(ETHE) together saw $8.97 million in inflows. As the inflows position Ethereum ETFs to record their second consecutive week of positive net inflows.

As XRP ETFs saw $6.97 million in inflows on March 2, led by Bitwise XRP ETF with $4.69 million in inflows, while Solana ETFs posted $17.

A new European Central Bank [ECB] working paper warns that large-scale stablecoin adoption could reduce bank deposits, constrain lending, and complicate monetary policy transmission in the euro area.

The study argues that as households and firms shift funds from traditional bank deposits into stablecoins, banks may face funding pressures that alter how interest rate changes ripple through the financial system.

The authors caution that effects could become materially stronger if stablecoin usage expands significantly.

Stablecoins as deposit substitutes

The paper identifies a “deposit substitution effect,” in which stablecoins compete directly with retail bank deposits. As deposits decline, banks may rely more heavily on wholesale funding sources. These are typically more volatile and sensitive to market conditions.

Using macroeconomic and bank-level data, the authors find that a higher share of non-bank digital money is associated with a smaller retail deposit base and reduced lending to firms.

Small-scale adoption has modest impact, but widespread use could meaningfully weaken banks’ lending capacity.

In practical terms, stablecoins could reshape the traditional bank funding model if adoption moves beyond niche crypto usage and into broader financial activity.

Monetary policy transmission could shift

The ECB paper also suggests stablecoins may change how monetary policy works.

In the euro area, rate decisions primarily affect the economy through banks. If banks rely more on wholesale funding due to deposit outflows, policy rate increases may pass through to lending rates more rapidly, potentially amplifying tightening cycles.

At the same time, stablecoins could weaken the deposit channel, as competition from digital dollar-pegged tokens may limit banks’ ability to adjust deposit rates without risking further outflows.

The attractiveness of Ripple USD ($RLUSD), $XRP and the entire $XRP Ledger has been spotlighted by developer Panos Mekras. Taking to his X account, Mekras commended a new incentive program spearheaded by First Ledger to reward $RLUSD holders.

$XRP Ledger liquidity growing

In less than 24 hours, First Digital had recorded up to $500,000 in $XRP liquidity as holders chose to leverage the 12.8% APR offer on the $XRP/$RLUSD liquidity pool.

The concept of liquidity pools is as old as the first AMM, Uniswap. Users lock up their funds for a period and earn rewards as the funds power various DeFi activities.

According to Mekras, he and his team had a similar idea in 2025 as a way to bootstrap the $XRP/$RLUSD liquidity pool. However, he noted that the Ripple team felt negatively toward the prospect and largely disregarded its proposal.

As he pointed out, the proposal now appears to be working for First Digital. Since this claim has started generating interest in the community, Mekras clarified in an early post that Ripple has a department for $XRP Ledger.

He believes that with one billion $XRP earmarked for the community and its builders, there will be a significant change in the ecosystem.

$XRP Ledger and DeFi counterparts

Despite the $500,000 raked in as liquidity into First Digital, the entire $XRP Ledger is still lagging behind significantly as concerns DeFi adoption.
