Bitcoin long-term holder selling slows, signaling 'potentially constructive' trend: VanEck
VanEck’s latest report said the selling pressure among bitcoin miners remained steady despite a decline in profitability, and long-term holders reduced selling activities.

The report said this trend is a “potentially constructive signal” for the crypto market.

VanEck's Mid-March 2026 Bitcoin ChainCheck report shows that long-term holder selling slowed, with transfer volume declining month-over-month across every age cohort of the cryptocurrency. 

"Declining transfer activity among these cohorts typically signals reduced distribution pressure from experienced market participants," VenEck analysts wrote in the Thursday report, describing the development as "a potentially constructive signal."


Meanwhile, the selling pressure among bitcoin miners remained steady rather than accelerating despite tighter profitability during the past month. Total miner revenues declined 11% month-over-month, while bitcoin mining equities fell 7%.

"Despite this deterioration in economics, miners did not meaningfully increase selling pressure," the report said. "Miner outflows to exchanges rose only 1% in BTC terms, suggesting most operators are attempting to preserve their remaining reserves rather than aggressively liquidating holdings," the report added.

Aggregate miner balances, excluding wallets attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto, stood at approximately 684,000 BTC, down only 0.5% year-over-year. Over the same period, roughly 164,000 new BTC were mined.

Likely to fall to support level 4400.00

Gold recently broke the support area between the support level 4680.00 (which reversed the price at the start of February, as can be seen from the daily Gold chart below) and the 50% Fibonacci correction of the upward impulse from last November. The breakout of this support area accelerated the active impulse wave 3 of the intermediate impulse wave (C) from the end of February –  which previously broke the round support level 5000.00. The active impulse waves 3 and (C) belong to the primary downward wave (B) from the end of January.

Given the strength of the active impulse waves 3 and (C), Gold be expected to fall to the next support level 4400.00 (low of the previous correction (A) from January, which is also the target price for the completion of the active impulse wave 3).

Are Bitcoin miners on vacation?

Back in January, I pointed out that Bitcoin mining had not yet capitulated.
Shortly after, price dropped from ~$96K to near $60K.
Hash Rate recovered slightly, but is now weakening again.

In other words, the mining sector is losing momentum, and many ASICs across multiple companies are either idle or turned off.
This trend suggests a decline in total mining power.

There are two possible paths for the mining sector:
1. Hardware innovation
New ASIC architectures with better performance and lower energy consumption.
The challenge is that most companies already made heavy investments between 2023–2024, making another upgrade cycle difficult in the short term.

2. Compute reduction and consolidation
Reducing hash power to survive until capitulation ends.
This would likely crush smaller miners with tight margins, while larger players gain even more control over the network.

As usual, when mining enters capitulation, miners tend to increase selling pressure on BTC.

But one thing must be said:
Miners are among the most resilient participants in the ecosystem.
They are used to enduring -70% to -80% bear markets, more than most.
This is why on-chain mining metrics are so important.
Throughout 2025, signals were already pointing to stress in the sector and it played out: a cycle top followed by a bear phase.

Analysts should pay closer attention to Bitcoin mining dynamics to better anticipate market opportunities.

The monthly CPI is forecast to rise 0.3%, following the 0.2% increase recorded in January, while the annualized reading is seen holding steady at 2.4%. Core CPI figures, which exclude volatile food and energy prices, are expected to come in at 0.2% and 2.5%, on a monthly and yearly basis, respectively. Although inflation data is critical for Fed officials when deciding on the next policy step, the market reaction could remain muted due to the fact that the February CPI prints won't reflect the impact of rising crude Oil prices on inflation. Cybersecurity firm Zimperium has issued a warning about a new Android banking trojan called PixRevolution, which is targeting users of Brazil’s PIX. This malware combines artificial intelligence (AI) and human operators to steal funds in real time, making it one of the most sophisticated threats seen in the region.
How PixRevolution Works:
Real-Time Monitoring – The malware continuously watches the user’s phone for upcoming PIX transactions.
Remote Observation – Once a transaction is detected, a command is sent to a server, where an AI or human agent begins watching the victim’s screen live.
Recipient Manipulation – As the user initiates a transfer, the agent changes the intended recipient to the attacker’s account.
Transaction Confirmation – The banking app behaves normally, showing all confirmations, so the user does not notice anything unusual.
Irreversible Loss – Because PIX transfers are instant and final, recovering stolen funds is extremely difficult.
Zimperium notes that the key difference between PixRevolution and traditional banking malware is its active use of AI or human operators to intervene at the precise moment of the transaction.
The malware primarily targets users of major Brazilian banks and digital platforms, including Santander Brasil, Banco do Brasil, and Nubank—the latter having received a $500 million investment from Berkshire Hathaway in 2021.
With over 150 million registered users and more than 3 billion transactions processed each month, PIX’s widespread adoption makes it a prime target for sophisticated banking malware.

Keep your phone OS and banking apps up to date.
Avoid installing apps from unknown sources or clicking suspicious links.
Enable transaction alerts and two-factor authentication.
Contact your bank immediately if you notice any unusual activity.
