Willy Woo identifies bitcoin’s cost basis near $79K as a key test.

BTC structure strengthens if $65K support holds after a breakout attempt.

Woo said current levels would need months of sideways action before a bottom can form.

Bitcoin is approaching a level that could confirm a bottom or expose the move as another failed attempt. On April 27, on-chain analyst Willy Woo said BTC must clear a key cost-basis threshold near $79,000. For traders waiting on confirmation, that level now sits at the center of the market’s next test.

Woo framed the setup around recent investor positioning, not short-term momentum. He wrote, “The next test for BTC is cleanly breaking the cost basis of recent investors ($79K).” He gave the move limited odds on this attempt, stating:

“I give it 30% odds on doing this on this attempt. After that, if BTC manages to hold this price level above $65K and not break down, then the chances of a structural bottom increases significantly.”

That makes the structure clear: BTC needs a decisive break higher, then must avoid losing the lower range that keeps the bottom case intact.The broader context shows why the test matters now. Capital flows into BTC have turned positive for the first time since January. Liquidity is repairing, spot remains stable, and derivatives are making another rebound attempt after being damaged on Oct. 10. SBI Holdings eyes stake in crypto exchange Bitbank to build digital asset powerhouse
Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Holdings plans to acquire a stake in Bitbank, one of the country’s largest crypto exchanges.

The Tokyo-based broker submitted a letter of intent to Bitbank Co., Ltd. regarding the purchase of the exchange’s shares with the goal of turning it into a consolidated subsidiary, according to an announcement on Friday.

SBI frames the Bitbank move as part of its broader strategy to expand its crypto footprint and strengthen its position ahead of potential regulatory changes in Japan.

Japan’s cabinet approved a draft amendment last month that would classify cryptocurrencies as financial products, bringing crypto assets under the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, which is used for stocks and other securities. If passed during the current parliament session, the law could take effect as early as fiscal 2027.

SBI already absorbed Bitpoint, a regulated Japanese crypto exchange that offers spot trading and has offered an onchain bond from which investors can receive rewards in $XRP.

The move is also part of SBI’s broader regional expansion push, having disclosed plans to acquire a majority stake in Singapore-based Coinhako, a MAS-regulated digital asset platform in February.

SBI has also commenced a Visa partnership to launch credit cards that automatically convert spending rewards into crypto (BTC, ETH, or $XRP), enabling users to accumulate digital assets through everyday purchases, according to a separate announcement on Friday.

Bitcoin was trading at $75,900 on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve’s latest rate decision sent a chill through crypto markets, capping three straight days of withdrawals from US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds that together erased more than $490 million.

Fidelity And BlackRock Lead The Exodus

Fidelity’s FBTC took the heaviest hit, shedding $191 million over the period. BlackRock’s IBIT — the largest spot Bitcoin ETF by assets under management — wasn’t far behind, with close to $167 million flowing out.

Ark Invest’s ARKB recorded another $73.3 million in withdrawals. The selling was spread across the week: Monday saw the worst single-day figure at $263 million, followed by $89.7 million on Tuesday, and $137.6 million on Wednesday — the day the Fed announced its decision.

The outflows came right on the heels of a strong stretch. According to reports, Bitcoin ETFs had pulled in steady money for nine consecutive days before the streak snapped, with total inflows during that run reaching a little over $2 billion. Last week alone brought in almost $824 million. The reversal was sharp.

Fed Holds Firm, Markets Respond

The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark rate unchanged at 3.50%–3.75% for the third meeting in a row. Fed Chair Jerome Powell gave no hint of cuts ahead. No softer tone on inflation. No signal of easier financial conditions on the horizon. That message landed hard on risk assets, and Bitcoin felt it quickly.

At the same time, rising tensions between the US and Iran added to the unease. Reports indicate that US President Donald Trump warned the Strait of Hormuz could be blocked if Iran does not stand down.
