Michael Saylor May Have Just Developed a New Way to Fund Massive Bitcoin Purchases
Michael Saylor’s recent financing of Bitcoin purchases is drawing attention, as analysts suggest a potentially more sustainable accumulation model is emerging at Strategy.

Recent data shared by CryptoQuant highlights an aggressive buying streak over the past two weeks. During the week of March 8, Strategy acquired roughly 17,994 BTC, followed by an even larger purchase of 22,337 BTC the following week, marking its biggest accumulation since November 2024. However, the main focus is on how these acquisitions are being funded.

Historically, Strategy relied heavily on issuing its Class A common stock (MSTR) to finance Bitcoin purchases. That structure is now changing. In the week of March 8, approximately $900 million was raised through MSTR share sales, compared to about $377 million from STRC preferred shares.

In the most recent week, the balance shifted, with only around $396 million coming from MSTR sales, while STRC issuance contributed roughly $1.18 billion.

Although MSTR-based funding still accounts for about 64 percent of total financing, STRC has rapidly expanded from effectively zero a year ago to roughly 8 percent of the mix. Analysts view this as a meaningful transition, as it allows Strategy to reduce reliance on common stock dilution while continuing to scale its Bitcoin exposure.

In a March 16 disclosure to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Strategy confirmed the purchase of 22,337 BTC between March 9 and March 15 for approximately $1.57 billion, at an average price of $70,194 per coin, including fees. This brings the company’s total holdings to 761,068 BTC, acquired for about $57.61 billion at an average cost of $75,696.

The acquisition was fully financed through the firm’s at-the-market equity program.

Market Veteran Insists Capital Will Not Rotate from Bitcoin to Gold as Both Pull Back

Market veteran Benjamin Cowen insists Bitcoin will not receive any capital rotation from gold, as it typically drops whenever gold struggles.

The crypto market has faced another roadblock to the latest recovery effort that began on Feb. 28, with Bitcoin ($BTC) eventually losing the pivotal $70,000 psychological level after reaching $76,000 earlier this week.

Interestingly, the ongoing pullback experienced by Bitcoin occurs alongside a price crash suffered by gold (XAU), the largest asset in the world. This adds weight to a long-standing belief held by Benjamin Cowen, who insists capital rotation will not flow from gold to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has faced a roadblock to the latest recovery push, recently collapsing below $70,000, as it dropped 8.78% from the $76,000 peak earlier this week.

The recent Bitcoin correction comes amid a similar turbulence in the gold market, as the precious metal crashes 8.54% this week alone.

Cowen believes Bitcoin’s drop alongside gold’s market struggles confirms his theory that capital will not rotate from metals to Bitcoin.

The market veteran’s suggestion contradicts the belief among Bitcoin enthusiasts that $BTC could eventually rally after capital rotates from precious metals.

Despite Bitcoin’s struggles, the crypto firstborn has begun gaining ground against gold after six consecutive weeks of declines.

A month before that, crypto exchange KuCoin was handed a $14 million penalty for operating in Canada without registering as a foreign money services business.

Those two cases now look like early warnings of what was coming.

In the months since, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre — better known as FINTRAC — has revoked 50 money services business registrations in 2026 alone.

Forty-seven of those belonged to crypto-related firms. The latest round, announced Monday, cut 23 registrations in one move.

Finance Minister Signals More Actions On The Way
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne called the pace of enforcement “significantly increased” and said the government has no plans to slow down.

“Our government will continue to monitor and pursue new measures to address risks posed by virtual currency businesses, such as cryptocurrency MSBs and crypto ATMs, which can be used to facilitate money laundering and fraud,” he said in a statement Tuesday.


FINTRAC canceled 23 MSB registrations on Monday, according to the agency.
Any business that loses its registration has 30 days to request a review. Some may get reinstated. But the scale of the sweep — nearly 50 revocations in under three months — signals a shift in how Canada is policing the crypto sector.

FINTRAC also said it is strengthening enforcement and increasing transparency around compliance actions, a move that suggests the agency wants its actions to serve as a public deterrent, not just a regulatory cleanup.
