Treasury yields dropped sharply after President Donald Trump announced that US-Iran negotiations had entered their “final stages,” triggering a broad rally across the $31 trillion Treasuries market. The move marks a notable reversal for a market that had been under persistent selling pressure since late February 2026.

For crypto investors, the ripple effects were immediate. Bitcoin recovered intraday losses following the news, and ether alongside a broader index of digital assets posted gains in tandem with the risk-on mood sweeping traditional finance.

The 10-year Treasury yield fell sharply on May 20 after Trump’s remarks. The Treasuries market had been in a rough stretch. Since late February 2026, escalating tensions between the US and Iran had fueled a steady selloff in government bonds.

Trump’s suggestion that a deal was close flipped that narrative, at least temporarily. Relief buying flooded in, pushing yields lower and creating a more stable interest rate environment for the first time in weeks.

The US-Iran conflict escalated in early 2026, raising fears about disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. Temporary ceasefires in March and April provided brief respites, but no lasting resolution materialized.

Bitcoin climbed after Trump’s May 23 announcement that a deal had been “largely negotiated.” Ether and a broad basket of cryptocurrencies followed the same trajectory.

Prediction markets offered another window into shifting sentiment. Polymarket, the crypto-native betting platform, saw the odds of a US-Iran deal climb to approximately 37% following Trump’s comments.
