Sui Network has gone live with protocol-level gasless stablecoin transfers on its Mainnet, meaning users can send select USD-pegged tokens without paying gas fees and, critically, without needing to hold any $SUI tokens at all.

Here’s why that matters: in most blockchain ecosystems, you need the native token just to move money around. Want to send $USDC on Ethereum? Better have some ETH. It’s the equivalent of needing to buy a specific brand of envelope before you can mail a check. Sui just removed that envelope requirement for stablecoins.

How it works
The feature operates at the protocol level, not as a third-party workaround or a relayer hack. It’s baked directly into Sui’s infrastructure, which means wallets and applications can offer gasless transfers without building custom plumbing.

The list of eligible stablecoins at launch includes $USDC, USDsui, suiUSDe, AUSD, FDUSD, USDB, and USDY. An on-chain protocol governs which tokens qualify, and only specific Move functions and conditions are eligible for the zero-fee treatment. All coins in a gasless transaction need to be fully consumed or converted, so this isn’t a blank check for arbitrarily complex operations.

Think of it as a fast lane on a highway. Simple, qualifying stablecoin transfers get waved through the toll booth. More complex transactions still pay the standard fare.

There’s also a congestion safeguard worth noting. Fee-paying transactions get priority over gasless ones when the network is under heavy load. Jr Morgare: Global Markets After Trump China Visit 

Stablecoins retain the edge over tokenized money market funds, JPMorgan saysTokenized money market funds still make up only around 5% of the stablecoin universe despite their ability to generate yield, Wall Street bank JPMorgan said in a Wednesday report.

The bank said crypto market participants continue to favor stablecoins because they have become the ecosystem’s default cash instrument for trading, collateral management, settlement, cross-border payments and liquidity management across centralized exchanges (CEX) and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

According to the report, money market funds face a “structural regulatory disadvantage” because they are classified as securities, subjecting them to registration, disclosure, reporting and transfer restrictions that limit their ability to circulate freely within the crypto ecosystem.

"We doubt that tokenized money market funds would grow beyond 10%-15% or so of the stablecoin universe, unless there is a regulatory change that reduces the structural disadvantage arising from tokenized money market funds classified as securities," wrote analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou.

As a result, the bank's analysts said demand for tokenized money market funds is largely confined to crypto-native investors seeking yield on idle cash and institutional investors looking to combine blockchain-based settlement and programmability with traditional investor protections.

Advocates of tokenized money market funds say the products combine the safety and yield of traditional cash-management vehicles with the speed and flexibility of blockchain networks.

The Pentagon standoff, explained
Here’s the backstory. Anthropic has refused to permit unrestricted use of its AI technology for lethal autonomous weapons and mass surveillance. In English: the company told the Pentagon there are things Claude simply won’t be used for, no matter how large the contract.

The Defense Department was, predictably, not thrilled.

The standoff escalated sharply in late February 2026. The Pentagon issued a stop-use order on Anthropic’s systems and slapped the company with a supply chain risk designation. Think of that designation as the government’s version of a scarlet letter. It tells every federal agency and contractor that doing business with the flagged company carries risk, which in procurement-speak is basically a “stay away” sign.

Anthropic didn’t take it quietly. On March 9, 2026, the company filed a lawsuit claiming irreparable harm from the Pentagon’s actions. It’s seeking to overturn the supply chain risk designation entirely. The legal argument boils down to this: the government is punishing Anthropic not for poor performance or security failures, but for maintaining ethical guardrails that the company considers non-negotiable.
